This is one of our new favorite campgrounds. We tent camped at one of the hike in sites and it was so well maintained. It was not a very long hike. We had two kids with us (4 and 7), so we appreciated that it wasn't too far from the cars. We also loved how spaced out the sites were. In addition, the bathrooms were the nicest we have ever had camping.

Nice campsites but inaccurate as to the size RV that they can hold. Site 35 was supposed to accommodate a 39 ft motorhome. Ours is 31 ft. We had to pull in diagonally to fit!

We reserved site 11 in Mather. The site description said our 30’ camper would fit. It definitely did not. The site was too small for our camper, and even if it had, we would have had to park the truck elsewhere. We dry camped in the visitor center parking lot, which was absolutely fine since we just had an overnight stay. Apparently, this happens a lot with Site 11.

Camping sites and bath houses are adequate. Easy access to shoreline, convenience store and excellent restaurant/tavern at the entrance road. Busy 2rail electric commuter railway just across the road. Plenty of train horns blaring multiple times per hour (3ish) from very early morning until about midnight. Had I been aware I would have built an extra day into my stay for an $11 (each way) day trip to Chicago.

Beware. They tell you it is $25 for the campsite on the website. Then they shake you down at the gate for another $25. The gate people claimed that somewhere on the site there was a statement of "fee area" in microscopic font and that I should have known. They wouldn't refund my money for the campsite so I could just turn around and go home. So I had to pay the 2x fee to just get into the campsite that I had already paid for.
I'm happy to support the parks if I know what I'm getting into. But this was just hidden extortion.
