Even with the monsoon rain, I had an excellent time tent camping at INDU. My site (#24 Mather Loop) was non-electric and got a lot of water. But when the rain cleared out, I sat quietly by the fire and enjoyed the serenity of the park. I saw deer, a turkey and squirrels. Canadian geese flew overhead, as well as cranes with their distinctive sounds. A Great Horned Owl sat above my tent and a few days later, a screech owl. Sites offer privacy and seclusion in a wooded area. Recycling is available. The bathhouse is well lit, offers hot showers, clean, flushable toilets and electrical outlets for a hairdryer. Access is paved, free of encroaching plants and offers a camp sink to do dishes. The road is paved and camp-hosts are friendly and helpful. The park is safe and I never had any concerns. West Beach has an excellent trail from which you can view the Chicago skyline. Plenty of other trails, as well as several beaches with an opportunity to view beautiful Lake Michigan sunsets. You can hike, bike and swim. Must sees: the Visitor Center, of course with knowledgeable staff (great info source), Chellberg Farm, Bailly Homestead, Mt. Baldy, Paul H. Douglas Center and Century of Progress Homes. Stop by the volunteer office and do a few hours of park service for Jim Whitenack. It's a great way to learn more about your park. Indiana Dunes has a phenomenal staff. It's a fantastic park and you'll be glad that you chose to visit this area. Rain or shine, it can't be beat! I love Indiana Dunes and I recommend Dunewood Campground for your next visit!

We enjoyed our stay here. Driveway length seemed shorter than what the website said and a little difficult leveling the motorhome but other than that it's a beautiful campground.

Sites were very nice. Lots of trees. Semi-private (neighbors not close--see pix of individual sites). Level gravel tent & activity pads with wood borders, trash hooks. Reflectors for backing up at night. Train nearby, but not too loud. Catholic church right outside. Convenient to the Dunes.
Restrooms were average for a campground. (Not many shortcuts from further campsites due to trees.) Four large individual shower rooms per area (non gender-specific). Large camper sink.
