It was a well maintained campground with friendly hosts. Its location allowed us to bike straight from camp to see some of the sights. Even though it poured most of the time we were there, the campground was a lovely place to sit and wait out the deluge!

I was really surprised with how hot the showers were and how it never went cold. That’s great for camping because I hate cold showers. The campground was clean and the employees were very nice. It wasn’t loud. Quite peaceful. Granted it did rain during our stay and was chilly in the month of June. That isn’t the campgrounds fault though. I do recommend and my family and I will be camping here again. Do make sure you book way ahead of time as spots fill quickly.

I've been staying at Dunewood for about 10 years and it is as lovely as ever. The campground amenities, such as they are, are top notch. I appreciate the tree canopy and the diversity of the sites. Plan to walk or ride a bike to the beach, parking is scarce. There are lots of great hikes withing biking distance, or driving.
There is a camp store, liquor store, gas station w/food and a restaurant within easy walking distance as well. Sometimes there is a pizza truck (or two) that makes woodfired pizzas outside the campground entrance, I usually plan to eat a pizza for at least one meal. There's also a really great gift shop featuring local artisans and collectors as well as a new vintage store selling mens and womens clothing and housewares.
Pro tip, you can reach the campground on the south shore line train from Chicago - construction to finish this year sometime. I used to backpack camp there with my kiddo in the walk-in site and take the train from the city.

- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
