Shady Creek is a well-maintained campground along the Mississippi River, offering spacious, level concrete sites and a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, clean facilities, and scenic views, as well as the proximity to local attractions like Wildcat Den State Park. While some noted issues with bathroom maintenance and nearby train noise, the overall experience is positive, making it a favored spot for short getaways.

Shady Creek has a very friendly team and is well managed by the rangers. It has nice views and good facilities and you can tell everyone cares about the property.
My only challenge arose with the sheer number of dogs. I love dogs but it was a little off-putting. One site near the front had six or seven small dogs in a corral and every camping trailer anywhere near me had dogs - mostly two per. In general campers seem good about keeping them leashed (I did see dogs off leash, though) but even then, with so many dogs, there was a LOT of barking all day as people walk by or they pass one another's sites or are being walked. It got to be a little much and was not as quiet and restful as we hoped. I know it's not practical and people need to vacation with their pets, but limiting the number of dogs at any one time would cut the noise. In the section I was in there were more dogs than humans.

We really like Shady creek, but some improvements needed are ventilation fan in the shower houses (it was very hot and steamy in there) the river front needs dredged. (Can't put a boat in at the ramps and can't really fish from the bank there. It's all a mud bar in front of there.)

The campground is fine. Dogs continue to be a problem with people bringing 5 or 6 dogs with them. When I was booking a trip to Florida stopping at Corps parks most campgrounds had a limit of two dogs per site.

Super helpful. We asked to move to another site within the campground. Seamless transition.
