Stayed Labor Day weekend at Sugar Bottom. Site was level, great peekaboo view of the lake (especially because it was a last minute cancellation). Road is very windy to get to the campground, just to be aware for driving. We camp extensively and this was by far the loudest campground we have ever stayed at. Large groups of people, which is fine and a lot of fun, except these groups were disrespectful to others camping. One group did not watch their children who were biking as fast as they could downhill, another group of adults at the park watching their kid beat up a younger sibling (I intervened), and another group next to us with a karaoke machine at night. I am hesitant to go back if that is the kind of other campers who choose Sugar Bottom, but definitely will never go back on a holiday weekend.

Always clean! Great views! Cell phone coverage is weak so if that is important, find a location within the park where the cell towers can be reached. Some spots are not level (but most are) so read reviews on this!

very clean park. Was a peaceful escape from work. The other campers were very respectful and the volunteers very helpful.
Definitely going back again and again.

This is a beautiful campground! It is a heavily wooded area on the Iowa River. I was only there for one night, so I cannot speak to the hiking trails in the park. The campground host was friendly and helpful; the park is clean and well-maintained. The view of the river and the sunset was amazing.
