Cottonwood Point

Good size, clean camping spots. Peaceful & quiet.

There was no hosts or volunteers when we were there a couple of weeks ago. This is big trouble. We have experienced storms at Cottonwood Point at one time or another over the past 30 years. There is NO one to help us if we lost power or anything now. No one to boot the people off the site that you paid for because they won't move. The Corp representative I spoke with said "Well, in that situation, catch a ranger or call the sheriff. We were there a couple of weeks ago for 4 days. We saw not one ranger go by..nor the sheriff. All we saw was the game warden. The Corp,s office is locked up tight with no admittance. No Saturday's or Sunday's. If this is a federal office and we the taxpayers pay for the salaries of these people, we have the right to visit the office. I get the impression we just want your money to camp but you are on your own when it comes to trouble. What if there was a power outage as we have experienced in the past? No ranger, no sheriff and our refrigerator is full. The food will go to waste. We have no control over that anymore. I understand the Corp cannot get staffing. But if that is the case, I feel the Corp should step us and help the campers that need help. They used to close the gates at 10 pm. The Corp,s office closes at 5, so that security went right out the window. This used to be a beautiful, peaceful and secure place. The staff was friendly but stern. What happened? Please do the right thing and get the staffing needed or at least open the Corp,s office so when help is needed it can be gotten. Give the camper's the rangers phone number so we can contact them.

We stayed at campsite #009 and it had great trees for hanging hammocks, a good area for sliding our kayaks into the water, and a decent fire pit and grill. The only problem was we couldn't find the "accessible drinking water" that was listed as an amenity.

RV sites are quite unleveled for as flat of a piece of land the park sits on. Some of the sites are L shaped so unless your 5th wheel can bend... then you have no choice but to look for another site. Some sites have the hookups on the short side of the L so even if you try to use the site you need 75-100 ft cords (water and electricity). Lots of low tree branches on the sites so make sure you don't knock your AC off the top of your trailer! ahh - and the non-stop beeping/flashing from a pole behind the restrooms... wtf? there was no-one to ask about it for 4 days... My advice? go to Council Grove instead...

Quiet park. Big spaces btwn campsites. We were in #98. Long pullthrough that could easily hold multiple tents and trailers. We pull a 43 foot 5th wheel with 5 slides and just fit btwn electric box on oneside and the covered patio on the other side. Spot has water electric table grill fire ring. The bathrooms were full of cobwebs so didn't use showers. No camp volunteers at this Corps.

It was super great, have nothing bad to say at all.

Cottonwood campground is a great place to camp. Site is close to water with clean bath house nearby and covered picnic table. Had good experience fishing near the campsite.

The campsites were in good condition! Busy weekend with lots of campers. Our neighbor had too many dogs but they were generally well behaved. There we no camp hosts and all arrangements had to be made online but that worked well. Was kinda sad that the gardens at the overlook and at the check-in station were totally uncared for but maybe they are short of people for this. Great experience generally.

Enjoyed another four nights in my RV. Nice place only 60 miles from home. Will go back again.

No one at the gate. Only saw one ranger during our 8 day stay. Now they tell us we can't reserve a spot more than four days ahead. Ceiling falling down in the handicapped shower in the men's shower room, and 30 amp electricity in our spot didn't work. No one ever addressed any of these problems. Probably won't be back.
