About Riverside (KS)

Riverside Campground is located on the Smoky Hill River just downstream from Kanopolis Lake in central Kansas, 30 miles southwest of Salina. Kanopolis Lake, one of the state's oldest lakes, provides many outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and hunting.

Lovely spot, nice facilities, free non-electric sites is a huge perk! I didn't have much cell service at my site, but just needed to walk up the hill about halfway and was able to access everything I needed.

The campground is set in a quiet, scenic area and by appearance, was well maintained. If I have a complaint, it's that check-in isn't until 6:00 pm which for me is too late in the day. In addition, nobody appears to check the campsites to assure that campers vacate their site when required. In my situation, the prior camper in the site I'd reserved, failed to leave on time resulting in me not being able to start my setup until 6:40pm. Basic campground courtesy.

I go camping to get away from it all. I go during the week so no one or few people are around. The peace and quiet is well worth the expense incurred and I would not change any of the entire park. is there a laundry service within the park? each ranger while on patrol stopped and took the time to speak with each individual camper unit. i was interested as a rock hound (collector and miner) one ranger is into the same and I learned of a gem and mineral show in october. thank you for the diverse personel. I SHALL RETURN.

Great clean and spacious camping area. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Our kids enjoyed the trails, park and riding their bikes around. Lots of shade trees around!

  • All camping fee payments are required to go directly to www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Only credit/debit cards accepted
  • Remember to record your reservation number and be prepared to provide for proof of payment.
  • Caution: Sites 1-9 back up to a steep riverbank and may be dangerous to unattended children
  • April 1-April 30 and October 1-November 30: electricity ON; water and waterborne restroom availability subject to closure dependent on freezing temperatures. Vault restroom remains open year round.
