This is one of the best places we have ever camped. The campground is very clean and has a very nice shower house. The laundry building is very clean and in a central location. You can fish, play volley ball, horse shoes, or play basketball. There is a nice playground for small children. The campground has ice and wood for sale which was very convenient for us. The host was very knowledgeable of the campground and area. We will definitely be back in the fall.

Campground is nice with several paved pads. One bathhouse which is kept fairly clean. BUt the description on Recreation .Gov says there is free wifi and a swim beach. NO wifi (no cell service either) and no beach. There is one short hiking trail to the top of the dam. I think the description is for Buckhorn State Park which is several miles away down a very twisting and hilly road. Unless you are a fisherman there is nothing to do here.

Getting There
Traveling north from Lexington, take I-64 to the Mountain Parkway. Exit at Slade,
take KY 11 South through Beattyville. Continue on Highway 11 to Booneville, continuing past the courthouse to KY 28 West. Follow KY 28 about 23 mi to Buckhorn.<br />...

Traveling east From Hazard, take KY 15 North 9 mi to 28 W (left turn) through Chavies. Follow Highway 28 West straight and go 15 mi to Buckhorn.
Highway access
Buckhorn Campground is accessible via I-64 and the Mountain Parkway. From I-64, take the Mountain Parkway to Slade, then KY 11 South to Booneville, and continue on KY 28 West to the campground.
