Mammoth Cave Campground

Campsite D96 was clean and enough space for my extra large tent. It did slope a big and a few stumps and large rocks, which I could have worked around with a smaller tent. Campground was amazingly quiet with all the people around. Very shaded. Short walk to the store with pay showers and laundry at the back. Also lodge and visitor center were well within walking distance, although I drove due to using the kennels at the lodge and needing to leave bowls and bedding for the my dogs.

It is the US longest explored cave about 425 miles and add about 800 feet of new areas each year. Very nice tour. I also when to Wind Caves National Park with about 185 miles explored and they estimate found about 15% of the cave system. I enjoyed the Wild Cave tour which is Spelunking - crawl on hands and knees through lots of tight spaces.

There is a walking path to get to the welcome center so you don’t have to deal with trying to find parking at the main lot.

The campground at Mammoth Cave was an nice place to stay with beautiful spots, attentive staff, easy bike and walking paths to the visitor center and trails. The campground facilities need updating. The bathrooms are functional but not great and I didn’t use the showers because they are only at the camp store and are coin-operated (what?!) Not hospitable to medium or large RVs given no electric hookups and only a single dump station. Better suited for small campers and tents.

Campground was nice and spacious with plenty of trees and seemed to be well maintained. There were a few issues with their facilities inside the Campground like their plumbing in the restrooms. The toilet was clogging up every day and they had to shut down completely which meant no toilet in our section. Also, one of their showers was out of service. Hopefully these things get addressed due to their heavy traffic of campers at the Campground. These are tiny issues but once fixed will make everyones experience much better. This is one of my favorite destinations within four hours from the house.

Definitely go on a cave tour during your camping trip!
We were in Loop A. The restrooms were very clean with a lighted pathway to them at night. The camp store was very close and seemed well stocked. Behind the camp store were pay showers that everyone seems to complain about. $1.50 for 4 1/2 minutes. I stayed at another national park earlier in the summer and they had no showers at all. But, they had agreements with other local private campgrounds where you could shower at those for a fee. My shower back then cost me $18, so enjoy your $4 1/2 minutes for $1.50!!! The tent pads were huge but contained a lot of rocks. We didn’t notice any park staff patrolling the campground during quiet hours at night which might have helped regarding the loud neighbors we had the 1st night we were there. I would definitely visit again!!

There was not quite time enforcement in the camp grounds and the group next to us was up partying until after 1am. We tried call in but got no response. There should be a contact number posted to get ahold of park law enforcement 24/7
