Mammoth Cave Campground

Our campsite D097, was alright, but is downhill from the other sites, making it prone to flooding when it rains (which happened during our stay). The water has also caused significant erosion around the parking pad leading to a drop off of up to a foot to ground level. Still a serviceable site, but could use some restoration work. Bathrooms were good. Wish the trash dumpsters were a little closer.

I really enjoyed ourselves. It was wonderful seeing the deer come through the camp during the day and everybody was respectful and left them alone. It was great

This review is specifically for the campground and not the park. Check-in office and hours were limited. Not a lot of patrolling of the campground. Generators of other campers not muffled and running during quiet hours. No site privacy and poor shade. Was still enjoyable, but there is a lot to be desired. No showers either, but bathrooms were fair. Water spouts are difficult to fill containers with.

Campground shower service was terrible. Make sure you bring a lot of quarters in advance!

Good location

Mammoth Cave was the most amazing place I’ve ever seen. The caves were so amazing all on their own but the facilities were always clean and functional. Every employee seemed genuinely happy to be there and everyone was so helpful. I had never been to Kentucky, other than passing through, and its beauty surpassed all expectations! This was a solo trip for me and I can’t wait to bring my family back. The camping area was also wonderful! Only next time I will camp in tent only area so I won’t be near loud generators during the day.
I only got to do three tours and there is so much more I want to see there. I haven’t stopped talking about Mammoth Cave and I’m pretty sure my family is tired of hearing it. 😂 They all know about many of the cave histories and dates and events pertaining to Floyd Collins’ unfortunate end. I’ve bought a few books while there that will give me more insight to the amazing area and it’s caves!

Park rangers were awesome, campground was nice and shady. My only complaint is the total lack of electricity for RVs. Generator hours are generous, but non Rv users harassed us about our generator, which has a lower Db rating, and we were forced to cut our use back to less than half the allowed hours to keep the peace

I would suggest making one loop generators only to further divide campers so we can use our generators w/o disturbing other campers

For reference I have medical equipment and dogs so I really NEEDED to run my generator until 8pm and cutting it off hours early to stop the harassment ended up with a catastrophic failure at 4am. I also didn’t turn my generator on until absolutely necessary for the comfort of other campers so it was only on from 1-6pm. I was still harassed and even when I cited the rules the camper was unwilling to back off.

I deduct 1 star for that because the NP could either provide electricity or ensure everyone’s comfort by putting generator users in a designated loop to avoid campground conflict

The Ranger that provided our tour was excellent. I think his name was Eric. We really enjoyed it.

We enjoyed Mammoth Cave immensely! It was a bit hot and the coin showers were ok. The campground was very peaceful and the caves were awesome! Guides couldn't have been better!
