Mammoth Cave Campground

Cell service is bad could use some campground improvements Overall a great experience

Our campsite (Site 97) was clean and shaded and perfectly located for getting around the park as a whole. Bathrooms were clean and well-cared-for and water was easy to get from spigots around the campground. The showers at the camp store were nice and hot and pretty clean overall, too. Not a huge selection of stuff at the camp store, but enough to get you by if needed. We got food, firewood, and ice at an IGA in Cave City and that worked great. The fire rings all had removable grates and were cleaned out regularly. Lots of wildlife, so make sure to pack out your trash and put food in a car or other secure location when you're not eating!

With T-Mobile, we didn't have any cell service anywhere in the park which was a bonus for us because kid quickly realized asking to do anything on the phone was useless and got settled into camping more quickly than usual. There was wifi at the camp store and visitor center so we could check directions and make reservations as needed, but it definitely isn't the speediest in the world, so you probably won't be using it to watch movies or anything.

If you have a kid between the ages of 8 and 12, the Trog Tour is a must-do so look it up and book in advance! We had a great time exploring the park as a whole and the cave. There were ranger talks at the amphitheater each night around 7:00 (height of summer season) that also really helped us learn more about the area and its history. In our family, everyone's favorite tour was the Domes and Dripstones tour, but we also really enjoyed to Onyx Cave lantern tour for something completely different.

Enjoyed our time and we'd stay again! We stayed 2 nights and were happy with the flat tent space and lots of trees for shade. The bathroom was clean. We did see some poison ivy at the camp site and they are fairly close together, although not unusual for a park campground.

Great place to stay within the park, close to the visitor center and where the tours depart from. Good mix of RV and tent campers and full every day we were there. Restrooms were clean, running water and flush toilets. Very quiet campground at night, we went to bed early and never heard other campers. Sites are large and not crowded. Our site was a quick walk away from the restroom and didn’t seemed bothered by foot traffic or smells.

Very well maintained park and facilities. The entire NPS team was great! They had a daily 7pm power point program on our stay. We LOVED these informative program talks. Though we had no electric and water on our site, we had a special time around the large green landscape and the wildlife.

Make sure to get quarters for the showers ahead of time. The coin machine empties fast and you have to wait for the next day for coins. Book your cave tours in advance!

We loved the campgrounds! Everything we needed was in walking distance. We loved walking on the trails and the highlight of the trip of course was the mammoth cave. Highly recommend.
