About Mammoth Cave Campground

Mammoth Cave Campground offers campers a prime location to explore both the depths and surface treasures of Mammoth Cave National Park.  Clicking on the site link will provide more details about the site's conditions. Be sure to check the 'Need to Know' section for each site to gather additional information on specific conditions.  All wheels must remain on the pavement within the campground, as varying conditions can cause muddy ruts and erosion. Mammoth Cave is an underground passageway with over 400 miles of naturally sculpted limestone and sandstone, making it the longest recorded cave system in the world. The grand-scale chambers and winding passageways were the inspiration for the park’s name.  The campground also serves as an entry point to 14 miles of hiking and biking trails, and is just a five-minute walk to the Visitor Center, where cave tours begin

We had an incredible visit to Mammoth Cave and the campground! In addition to the fascinating cave tour, the camp had nice little details, like small signs indicating which caves and chambers were below us. We wrote all about our stay during our cross-country trip here: https://toebox.substack.com/p/day-three-dripstones-and-raccoons

The showers, laundry, and camp store -- complete with wondeful staff full of useful information (and a solid wifi connection) also made the stay comfortable and restful--which was just what we needed.

Enjoy this very special place!

We camped one night, and had to find a hotel the second night. There were a lot of dead tree limbs above our campground, and due to the heavy rain, one massive limb fell about 10 ft. from where our tent was set up. They offered for us to move to a different site, but we had already packed up to leave. The campground was well equipped, the bathrooms were very clean as well as the showers and laundry area.

This was well worth the drive from Florida. I used to live in the state, but do not remember the tour. I took when I was younger than five years old. Decided to come back and visit some friends and stayed in a tent site. Saw a deer walk through my campsite, which was very exciting to me. Also hadn’t seen fireflies in so long that I thought I was seeing spots before my eyes from standing up too quickly until I realized that it was lightning bugs lol. No electricity at the site but within a very short walk of a bathroom. The laundry room and showers were adequate, but just make sure you bring enough quarters or have singles for getting change. The tour I took at the cave was fantastic and just as strenuous as they said, it would be in the description.. It was hot and muggy in July, but the cave was a pleasantly cool experience that I will definitely repeat in the future when I come back to visit again.

What a wonderful campground! Very close to the bathrooms, which were extremely clean (and air conditioned, so nice in the heat!). Water easy to get for camp. Used campstore to purchase ice.
A doe came thru our campsite, much to the delight of my kid!

It was a very nice campground. The showers were ok could use a little upgrade. The sites were nice and well-maintained. Would love to have water and electricity at every site since it get so hot. We were in a tent but could have used a fan to sleep with and during the day. People were hanging out in the bathroom for the ac
