Mammoth Cave Campground

Stayed here 3 summers in a row. My kids liked the birds & seeing deer in the morning. The showers and laundry were clean and the camp store has firewood. Bring quarters just incase.

This is my second time at the campground. It’s always very clean. Rangers make loops during important time to be sure generators are off at correct times, fires are all attended, etc. Bathrooms are always clean and stocked. Rangers are friendly. We attended two shows, one at the amphitheater on the history of national parks and another at the bus loop park for stargazing. We love this park

It was a nice camp site. The bathrooms were clean and it was the first place we’ve ever camped where picking up downed or dead wood was allowed for campfires which was a huge plus! We did the historic tour and the two hours went by fast.

While we are not fans of the reservation system as it basically requires anyone camping to have a cell phone and credit card , which in our opinion is totally wrong, we had a good visit. Please change this policy asap in the name of freedom and sensibility.

Loop B the picnic tables are too close to each campsite and are encased in concrete. Parking pad on opposite end so there's no privacy whatsoever. No trees or bushes between sites. I guess I got a lucky draw because the campground was largely empty except my area. Mosquitos present so they do not spray here. Did have a tornado warning at night but it was several counties away. No cell service, no wifi. So it was a scare until I had internet to realize it wasn't that close. Had to drive to the visitor center or lodge to get free wifi. Most of the low numbered B loop sites are along the main road but there's no traffic at night. They do have a slight grade. I would be worried in a heavy storm if there was a runoff but the forecast didn't come true. I would consider coming back but definitely not to the same site.

The campground had great shade coverage, and it was great to be able to walk to the cave tours, amphitheater, camp store, and other amenities. We camped in a tent and the tent pad was a little hard and rocky, compared to some grassy tent areas we have stayed in in the past. The convenient location of the campground was SO worth it though! The bathrooms and all the amenities were nice and clean when we were there.

Beautiful park, campsite worked perfectly for our SUV and small kayak trailer. Location of campgrounds is perfect for accessing the main visitors center and centrally located spots. Facilities were generally pretty clean and well maintained. Every ranger we encountered on or off camp was professional and friendly. Such amazing geography all around this area of the country, green river is beautiful, hiking is great and the NPS tours of the caves are always the highlight and the rangers who lead these are real professionals.

The public is likely the biggest issue in parks these days, but for how busy this park is it really could have been worse. We cleaned up lots of trash left on our site upon arrival, including some things that shouldn't have been in the firepit. During the day someone stole wood and kindling from our site, I guess they needed it more that us.

This was our second time to Mammoth Cave park, first at the campground and we look forward to coming back to continue exploring this massive and truly amazing place.
