What Guests Are Saying
Axtel campground is praised for its beautiful location, clean facilities, and friendly hosts, particularly Vickie, who ensures a pleasant experience for visitors. Many families enjoy the quiet atmosphere, spacious campsites with easy access to water activities, and a welcoming community of fellow campers. However, some guests noted issues such as low water levels, closed restrooms, and occasional noise, but these did not significantly detract from the overall positive experiences reported.

We had an awesome stay at Axtel in May of 2022. This is a very clean and beautiful campground. The attendants, Joe and Don, are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. The campground is close to gas, hardware store, a Dollar store stocked with groceries and fresh produce, and a restaurant called Little Dave's. We had breakfast there and the food was great.... we call it the Cracker Barrell on the lake. Plan to go back in June and take our whole family.

I've always enjoyed Axtel as well as North Fork. Been camping here for 40+ years.

Very disappointed. Arrived at the site to a firepit filled with trash. Plastic bags, bottles and left over garbage that I ended up picking up, which filled a 13 gallon trash bag. I spoke to the camp host who said someone was suppose to come 3 times a week and clean the firepit. He also said the site had not been occupied for quite some time. We have camped here for several years and it seems that less and less is being done to keep the sites clean.

It's easy to get a good space with a great view of the lake. Always quite and relaxing.

Nice campground located a nice distance between Mammoth Cave and Louisville. Clean and well layed out. No shop for incidentals, but a gas station mart just up the road.

Site clean and level. Bathhouse was clean. Dollar General and local hardware store was close. The hardware store has camper supplies.

Overall this is a good campground. Our site had a wonderful view, but was steeper than expected. It was also tight to get into due to a curve and narrow roadway. The closest bathhouse was closed and the next had some issues. The handicapped toilet stall was locked, and the stall next to it had water leaking out into the room. Signage needs to be improved. The roadways are also somewhat confusing. To get to waterfront sites on the side of the lake where ours was, you have to drive down beyond them, then turn around and drive back. Being an older campground, some of the internal sites have no view of the lake. Staff was friendly. Lake levels were confusing. The beach was closed due to low water levels. However, a short drive away to the state park, the water level was supposedly eleven feet above normal. Go figure.
