This campground was perfect in every way with a wide variety of selection in lots. I was fortunate to land a spot overlooking the water that was just breathtaking to wake up every morning an watch the sunrise and then the sunset with a nice fall fire in the evening. The other campers were very friendly and respectful and I can not say enough great things about the wonderful folks at the Gate, simply Amazing customer service and just a great down home vibe.

I love being able to look out onto the water all day and waking up and having my coffee by the water.

This was my first time at Axtel. I prefer Rough River Lake for local overnight trips. This is a large campground but well laid out with a diverse variety of sites. I had spot 34, a Absolutely beautiful lakefront spot, but I found great spots in the upper 100s hilltop overlooking a peninsula with water on three sides. Some of the non electric spots were literally at water level. The staff could have been a little friendlier (the lady at the gate was very short and seemed to be in a very bad mood and didn’t volunteer any kind of information for someone new to the camp. She sure didn’t make you feel welcome), but that didn’t affect my little mini vacation any.
