The new summer pool level is much lower so the camp sites are much father from water than in years past. Tried to bank fish and hosts ran my boy and me away from the beach access (no one was swimming) then we was told not to fish by the boat ramp. There was no other access to the lake except through someone’s camp that is on the water side. Everyone had a fire going all night. Smoke was overwhelming at times. I feel fires should be extinguished by midnight maybe to let people sleep comfortably. I’m not anti-fire and a fire is certainly part of the camping experience but so many fires in a small area was just too much. Host was respectful when asking us to not fish. Restrooms was fine.

Location and sites are amazing. Plenty of space between. Many offer private spots looking directly over the lake. If you’re not on the lake side, the others have plenty of tree cover. No sewage hookup, but there is a dump station on site. Will definitely visit again.

The service on the outdoor toilets were smelly and very unclean no toilet paper. We camp there every year and the restrooms at Axtel were in the same shape. In the past it was better than this year. The hosts at Laurel Branch and Axtel are very friendly and accommodating this year.
