About Tailwater

The Tailwater Campground offers 48-sites located along the Barren River, just below the dam. This lazy riverside campground is quieter than neighboring campgrounds and seems to have a slower pace since it is set below the lake, yet close enough for easy lake access. Annually, the campground is host to the Barren River Lake Scout Celebration which began in 1995. Scouts from surrounding states converge at the Tailwater Campground to celebrate, compete, and demonstrate their skills over the weekend. This event occurs every August and is something everyone can be a part of as a participant or on looker. View a virtual tour of Barren River Lake.

We had a great time at this campground even though they shut off the water and electricity! We were the only RV in the park with a tent way on the other end. Site 05 was mostly level gravel right on the river. The camp hosts, Jeff and Diane were very nice and showed us where to fill our fresh tank for our 3 day boondocking stay. We had some elec issues so we only got to tour the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, a 40 min drive. Hated to miss Mammoth Caves. A little store/baitshop right outside the entrance has 24/7 pay at the pump gas at a reasonable price.

Camp host was very nice. The site was nice but there was no electric. Turned off for the season. I can understand shutting off the water this time of the year, but the electric also. Not good!

Showed up and someone was in the spot I reserved. Had to argue with them to get them to move. They didn’t pay or reserve. Need better enforcement.
