There had just been a big rain before we got there so things were a little wet and muddy but the hiking on the island is fantastic!! Nice shoreline hikes with incredible views!! Well worth the trip!

Make sure to bring jugs for water however so that you don't have to make the 20-minute hike in the darkness of night.

We had the most epic time at duck harbor!! We got there on the 11 AM ferry, set up camp, and hiked all over the island. What an amazing island!! We loved that firewood was provided, and the rangers were very nice and helpful. This is one of the best places I've ever camped in my life. Thank you for an amazing experience!

What a fantastic two nights camping at Duck Harbor! The rangers were so helpful at our arrival. We had major rain when we arrived off the boat, but the lean-tos were great and made it so that we could still enjoy camping. The trails are incredibly maintained and marked. The hiking is perfect on the island. In some ways, it’s better than the main parts of the park because there are way fewer people. We will definitely be back for another stay!

Loved this experience. Going back next year. Amazing to be able to go to sleep watching the sun set over the Atlantic and then wake with the birds. We didn't set up our tent, and I won't bring it next time (we sprayed the lean-to bottom with bug spray, and would recommend that, plus a citron candle). Pick the wild blueberries/raspberries for the oatmeal or pancakes in the morning. Make sure you pay attention when the rangers tell you where the water and firewood is. Lots of trails to hike. Book early!

General
- No pets allowed in the campground.
- Campsite reservations can be made beginning at 10am on April 1.
- The first night is June 19th and the last night is October 5th.
- Maximum length of stay is three nights.
- Campers are limited to one stay per calendar year.
- Six people are permitted per campsite.
- There is no potable water source at Duck Harbor Campground. Plan ahead to treat the water or bring enough potable water for the duration of your stay.
- Check with the Isle au Haut Boat Services for boat schedule. On some days, boat transportation is limited to the Isle au Haut Town Landing and does not travel to Duck Harbor, especially during October. No reservations are taken for the boat. Be there at least one half hour before departure.
- Distance from Ranger Station to Duck Harbor Campground is ~4 miles via trail and ~5 miles via road. Distance from Duck Harbor Boat Landing to Duck Harbor Campground is approximately 300 feet.
- Prepare for camping in the backcountry and pack relevant camping gear. This is not car camping.
- All trash must be carried out.
- Firewood: Dead and downed wood may be collected near the campground. Please do not bring your own firewood to reduce the spread of non-native insects.
- All campsites must be reserved on this website (recreation.gov) or by calling 877-444-6777. Camping without a reservation is prohibited.
- Arriving Late? You must arrive at your campsite before check-out time on the day after your scheduled arrival date. If you cannot arrive by that time, you must call (207) 335-5551 or you will be marked a No Show and incur fees. Review them on the Fees & Cancellations tab above.
