If you're looking for a classic, almost fairy tale experience of old school log cabin into the gateways of the wilderness on one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States!. The staff will treat you with all the care and comfort you need. The lodges are almost untouched piece of History like you're staying in a 100-year-old fishing camp. Whether it's snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, or just trying to escape, you won't be disappointed. The food's amazingand views are spectacular!

I just wanted to say how impressed I am with The Birches Restaurant. My Dad and I went to see about dining there for the first time on 10/4/25. We didn’t know that having a reservation to dine there was suggested. The staff tripped over each other to help us. The host, Luke I think his name is, worked hard to see if we could be seated. Within 10 minutes we were seated and our order was taken. Our server Blake was amazing. He also did everything he could to help us, as well as serve his other tables. The next time my Dad and I are in Moosehead, we will be stopping by The Birches for dinner

Ive been to the Birches before but this was last night was the first night I stayed the night. I needed a break from everyday life and that is exactly what I got. I enjoyed the grounds and the picturesque fall foliage and ate an amazing meal from their tavern on the balcony outside amongst the birch trees looking out at lake. The staff were all amazing and accomodating. I definitely will be back.

the cabins are very rough and rustic. The living room had a stove in the middle, no fireplace like some other cabins. the dark gray bedding and towels left me no confidence of cleanliness. I was told that the cabins were from the 1920s and retrofitted. It could have been done better. My husband made the reservation almost a year in advance (to surprise me) and all rooms were available. He asked for the "nicest" cabin and what we got was far from the nicest. When i complained and told them how disappointed i was, the gentleman at the front desk said, "I don't understand the nicest". There are too many things about the cabin to mention, but it was rough. We did go on a moose tour. we saw no moose, got stuck in the sand twice and the tour was shortened from 3 hours to 2 hours. We left a day early and i requested an accommodation (some refund). the front desk said he would reduce the second night charge by 25%. Then the owner vetoed that. Very poor treatment. I do not recommend.

Did not stay in a room, only ate at the restaurant. We were a party of 7. Went on a Friday night at about 7:00 p.m. We told the very nice gentleman at the front desk we were a party of 7 and he said to go to the bar and they would seat us either at bar area or in restaurant, which we didn't care which room we sat in. Unfortunately, the girl tending bar (long braided hair), was not so nice. She asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. She said she had nothing available in her area (there were plenty of empty seats), and with a rude attitude told us to go to the double doors and "maybe" we could get seated back there. She acted like we were bothering her and how dare we come in without a reservation, when the gentleman in the front didn't even hint it would be a problem getting a seat anywhere in the restaurant. Fortunately, the rest of the staff were very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. The restaurant also had a lot of empty tables, so not sure what the big huff was all about.
The atmosphere was beautiful and the food was really, really good. My husband and I both had the French onion soup, and we both thought it was the best we have ever tasted! The rest of our party seemed to really enjoy their meals and drinks.
We would have given 5 stars, but the bartender is responsible for leaving off a star. I understand she was busy and maybe wasn't up to dealing with 7 more people in her area, but there is a much nicer way of going about telling us to go to the restaurant side instead. Would definitely go again despite her rudeness... and get that onion soup (and poutine)!!

Addendum: I will add that star back due to the response from restaurant, as they are correct, they should not lose a star because of one bad interaction. Just to be clear, it was our first time to the area and we didn't realize reservations were required. Again, there is a polite way of letting people know. And those empty tables were the entire time we were there. :)
