Greenbelt Campground serves as an excellent base for exploring Washington, DC, offering a safe and peaceful environment. While bathroom facilities could use some updates and maintenance, the campground overall is well-maintained, with friendly staff and a beautiful natural setting. Many visitors appreciated the quiet atmosphere, convenient location near the Metro, and affordable rates, making it a recommendable spot for camping in the city.

I stayed at the Greenbelt campground in early December. It’s definitely conveniently close to DC and cheap, and I appreciate that. You can walk to the train/subway station in 30-45 min (2.3 mi). However, in Loop B, the small bathroom was clearly not being cleaned, the large (and clean) one with the shower got suddenly closed one morning (thus there was no more showers in Loop B), and making a change to my reservation to switch sites was a huge hassle (app showing an error message for modifying a reservation -> NPS call center not answering my call (I waited 20 min while the announced wait time was less than 5 min) -> Ranger showing up at the station at least 1 hour late). Overall this campground didn’t match my expectations for (and experience with) an NPS-managed site.
