Fifteen Mile Creek Campsite

Myself and my stepfather booked side by side campsites for our families Friday - Sunday. When we got there, the sites were marked although not very clearly. Someone was staying in one of our campsites. We politely asked them to move and showed them our reservation and confirmed he was in our site. He obviously hadn’t booked a site. The conversation ended with my wife and our family having to share our campsite with my parents who brought their RV because the person in the campsite we had clearly booked would not leave. There was no ranger at all anywhere at anytime. Also, some idiots revved their boats in the water at 5AM down at the boat ramp for several minutes. Another camper pulled into the adjacent spot of us and asked if our tent was on their booked site to which we replied no. Someone else who had clearly not paid and booked a spot was staying in their site. It’s the Wild West at these places. They are beautiful places but it’s a free for all and there is no one to enforce anything. I’m honestly surprised we had at least one of our campsites based on how many people it seemed didn’t reserve and pay for their spot. On a positive note, we were able to paddle board quite a bit and saw a bald eagle on the river while doing so. It was a great place but it needs someone to enforce the rules. And no firewood anywhere and alcohol is not allowed. Come on, an adult should be able to enjoy a beer. I can say I won’t go back but we had a good time.

Since I stayed here the last time quite a few years ago, this location has become a main access point to the Potomac. I was expecting a serene stay as I remembered, but it ended up being quite an active spot. Being a social person, I adapted and ended up having a total blast swimming and fishing with the locals. If you dont mind a little activity during your camping adventure, it is a great spot. Otherwise, booking a primitive campsite inside green ridge may be a better option.

We camped at 15 mile Creek and enjoyed the site very much. It was mid-week which helped with privacy and large gatherings. The only down fall was the litter left behind by the previous campers. Bill's place is outstanding one of the best Md crab soups We've ever had. Hope to return in the fall

Campsites are nice and spacious. The location allows for fishing, biking, hiking, canoeing/kayaking and wonderful outdoor activities.

The park does get a bit busy on holiday weekends with lots of boaters and cyclists passing through, which sometimes makes for overflowing bathrooms. I've been to this park for the same holiday weekend for the past three years with no problems. This year, 2019, one of my kayaks was left unattended for 1 hour and was stolen from down by the boat launch. It would be helpful to campers if there was bike stand or something to chain kayaks to so we don't have to walk them back and forth, up and down the hill back to our campsites. I reported it to a ranger (fish & wildlife, don't recall what kind of ranger), but he said it was National Park issue. It was never found.

My extended family and I all get together here every summer for the weekend and we always have a good time.

The campsite is close to the river and that was nice to be able to walk back and forth for fishing. It is very close to the C&O Canal towpath which is great for walking. The campsite overall was kept up pretty well, no trash. But the grass was tall (ok, it was August, it happens!) and the latrines needed to be flushed or cleaned. Depending on the wind, we could smell the chemicals from the latrines in our tent. Not pleasant. I probably won't return to this campsite.

Beautiful place to camp, and fish. Yes, it's primitive camping, but we did just fine.
