Weko Beach Campground

I camped here about a month ago. The spots are very close together, especially on the south portion of the campground where we were staying. The east and west parts seem to have a little more space, but not much more.

I did not like the fire pits either. They were tire rims and you could move them wherever you needed to. So there were piles of ashes in places where people previously had fires.

The only thing that makes this campground worth the stay is the beautiful beach. If you are camping, you can either drive to the beach parking lot in which you need to pay, or you can walk up and down stairs and walk to the beach. The beach has a little building with restrooms and concessions.

Overall, Weko Beach is beautiful. The campground, not so much. The beach does make it worth the visit though.

Beach is beautiful. Campground staff was friendly and helpful. I'd called to see I could bring my golf cart as to assist in getting to the beach and back from our camping spot. I reconfirm this a week before my trip. After getting there, checking in with my golf cart, I set up and used the golf cart to get wood. I was immediately stopped by a cop before even getting to the booth to be told he'll speak to the campground but because I don't have blinkers, seat belts, a campground pass and it wasn't insured. I explained is actually insured and the city I live in, it is as legal as a regular or electric bike and we just use hand signals).
The staff of the campground told me to email someone who can get me a pass but I'm now home days after leaving and still never got a response or pass. Due to the misinformation, it made for a pretty miserable trips to the beach in 90°+
Not sure why but 1 entire day we couldn't even stay at the beach due to mass of flys biting everyone.

I love this place. I look forward to visiting every year. It's my little slice of Midwest heaven. It's always so peaceful and less chaotic than the more popular beaches in MI. Just keep in mind parking can get tricky during peak season.

We were very disappointed in our tent camping stay here. The loop they put us on had dumpsters right in the middle of the loop with raccoons in them. The port a pottys were absolutely filthy and smelled. There was one light right in the middle of all that, which took away any possible camping ambience. When looking to see if we could move loops we were told they could not accommodate us, even though those sites stayed unused for 3 days. When asking for a refund, I was given the runaround and ultimately they only refunded the one day I left early "because we used their amenities " I asked for clarification and was told water and electricity. Which we didn't use. The nicer campsites were open, and had "long term campers" occupying the further sites. They had multiple tents, fences and gazebos set up on their sites. It was apparent they didn't want others camping near them. Do not camp here. Go further south or north for a much better stay and experience. The park director should not work there as she would not even come to view the lack of cleanliness and I had to go to the office in town and demand a receipt to ensure I did receive what little refund I was getting for the one not we didn't even stay. Bottom line. Terrible management. Nasty conditions and lack of any attempt to rectify the situation. Highly recommend Van Buren State Park or areas in Beverly Shores to camp. The family also in the site next to us said they have been. Going there for years and couldn't believe how bad it was and would not be returning. Beach parking is also not included in your camping fees so be prepared to walk or pay an additional $15 on top of your site fees per day to have your car at the beach

Hot water and clean bathroom facilities (including a private family restroom). Campsites are standard. Taps is played at the beach and locals gather there for sunset. Volleyball net there too, and you only need your own ball to play.

Minus stars for the INSANE number of police patrols. It’s a dry camp site, but we counted more than 20 patrols by our campsite in one day. Stop policing that nonsense just to write $100 tickets. The sheer number is astonishing, we were more closely monitored than any place I’ve been possibly ever.

If you really don’t mind being monitored by cops constantly, it’d probably be a five star experience.
