These sites were very large! The campground was kept clean and it was the perfect spot for us to explore the area. They were good about telling us about the bear activity and to keep food locked away. I saw Rangers driving or walking the campground often to make sure everything was o.k. We would definitely stay here again!

Amazing campground and site. Only reason for a 4 star is the amount of poison ivy surrounding the site was tough to manage with our young kiddos.

We love this campground and keep coming back.Nice large lots with big trees and clean bathrooms and great sites. We love the hiking trails to the lakes too. Probably our favorite campground in Michigan!

We try to camp at DH Day every summer because it is such a great campground housed within such a wonderful area of the Great Lakes.
This year was a wonderful stay!

I have stayed at DH Day a number of times, and want to love it (the location is great!), but they sure do make it difficult. I know that they have no control over the weather, but it is how situations are dealt with (or not) that is troublesome. Our site had a huge muddy puddle at the entrance for the duration of our week-long stay. Our first day, I asked at the ranger station if there were any boards around we could use to make a walkway for us and our two dogs. It was Saturday, and there was no access to the maintenance shed; nothing they could do to help us. I went to the hardware store and got a wooden pallet, and when we put it in the driveway, the staff became more concerned about the possibility that we were going to leave it behind than anything else. We were actually told we needed to “take it with us” when we left. (We broke it down and properly disposed of the soggy, muddy thing.) There is so much poison ivy that there was no way to skirt around the area to avoid the water without traipsing through it. There is no way that there is no administrative awareness of this site (and likely many others) having this issue, yet nothing is done to address it. Bring in a grader and some pea gravel! They just repaved all of Platte River; show D.H. Day some TLC.
All trash and recycling have be brought to the front of the campground due to wildlife, which requires the mostly tent campers to walk their trash out every night (I referred to the nightly parade of trash bag-carrying campers as the “Trash Zombies”).
The fill level of the vaults is hit or miss. They seem to be emptied as needed, when very full, so the ones near our site were good, while the ones in other locations were disgustingly full.
This is a very kid-friendly campground (bewildering, considering the copious amount of poison ivy), so if you have kids, you're all good, and if you prefer to not hear the sounds of children at all levels, at all times, you might want to consider camping elsewhere.

It was exactly as described and expected. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Toilets, water, the Heritage Trail and the beach were clean and convenient. Other campers were polite and respected quiet hours.

Always a beautiful, rustic stay! Favorite view coming onto the dunes en route to the beach. Watch out for all the poison ivy!

Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is abundant at the campground and throughout the lakeshore. Tent pads and campsite driveways are kept clear of poison ivy. However there may be poison ivy lining the boundary of the campsite.
