Great location, close to the water. The bathrooms are horrible, everything else is fantastic.

D H Day is a beautiful rustic campground in Sleeping Bear Dunes. It has a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan and a great location to the sites in Leelanau. The sites were very spaced out and private. My only complaint about my site is that it was much closer to the outhouse than the map indicated. I would not have chosen I site that backed up to the outhouse with the door slamming all night long.

We enjoyed everything about the campground. Our own problems led us to a less than enjoyable experience. My CPAP power did not work as it should have so a lack of sleep caused a problem. THen our three doxins were not cooperative and made for a problematic biking experience. As far as the camping went. Outstanding. An absolutely beautiful location and wish we could go back but unless I get a better CPAP I do not see us having anymore camping experiences.

Excellent spot in a beautiful area. Right next to the bike trail and the beach, yet you get to camp in the shelter of a forest canopy! So lovely.

Location and amenities. The grounds and beach are exceptional. What a camping experience should be, just don't leave any food containers or coolers outside. The over zealous rangers will crack the whip on you.

These may be the best beaches in the whole national park system.
The hiking options in the area are amazing from the Dune Climb to Alligator Hill (OMG THE BERRIES UP THERE!) to Pyramid Point & the killer views! The food in the area is equally increadable. Plenty of options to pick up fresh whitefish, trout or salmon and grill them over a hardwood fire at your campsite. YUM!
DH Day is a rustic campground, so be prepared for that, but there are flush toilets only a short walk away in Glen Haven.

This is one of my favorite campgrounds in Michigan! Lots of room and super close to the beach - great for dogs.

We arrived for the final nights of our week long vacation, excited to camp at D.H. Day campground. We arrived and were told our site (32, Upper) was the flood zone site of the campground. That all the water that came in when it rained, ran down from multiple areas, into our campsite. This was not listed on the reservation site & I am not sure why they allow a flood zone site to even be used. We were informed if it rained, our site could flood up to 4”+. Nearby campers, in addition to a park ranger, informed us of this. Neighboring campsites even showed us pictures from the previous evening’s rain and how it flooded. This is acceptable when you are tent camping or camping with dogs, both dogs which we were. It was going to rain that night, so we stayed for the day and ended up leaving since it was going to be storming all night. We left after dinner and on our drive out, it started to thunder and storm. We were highly disappointed that we spent money on a site we didn’t even get to stay at and that there was no disclosure anywhere for this site’s issue with rain. They just said upon arrival and let us know they didn’t have a solution, but were “working on one” for future campers. Highly disappointed and sad that we had to cut our vacation short due to this since we did enjoy our day in the actual park. If we return to Sleeping Bear Dunes, it will not be at D.H. Day Campground.

Poison Ivy. Poison Ivy is abundant at the campground and throughout the lakeshore. Tent pads and campsite driveways are kept clear of poison ivy. However there may be poison ivy lining the boundary of the campsite.
