Great campground and campsite. The site is close enough to the (very clean) showers and bathrooms, but spacious enough to feel some privacy. The tent space is very large (which is in addition to the paved pad where the trailer, RV, car etc must be parked). I didn't have a hammock with me, but there was a good spot for one at the campsite.

Our experience was made even better by all the welcoming rangers! They spent time engaging in meaningful conversations with our kids about the park. As adults, we appreciated their wealth of knowledge to visit important highlights during our short trip. I highly recommend seeing them to make your trip the best!

Beautiful campground! You can’t beat the Lake Michigan coastline all the way up to sleeping Bear dunes! The staff at the Ranger station were very nice and my couple run-ins with cleaning staff were great! The restrooms and showers were very clean. Campsites, trails and roads were maintained very well.

We just love this park. It is beautiful, peaceful, clean, quiet and has breathtaking access to Lake Michigan.

The staff at Platte River Campground were very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They provided me with a map to easily navigate the campground and find my site. The only complaint I have is that the outdoor temperature was very hot in the low 90s and the extreme heat made hiking very uncomfortable. Next time I visit please have the temperature a little cooler to make hiking more comfortable. I was able to complete four hikes. Pyramid point, sleeping bear dunes hike, Empire Bluff and the Lasso loop. All great hikes with beautiful scenery sleeping bear dune hike was strenuous in the high heat watch out for the flies at Lake Michigan.

Rangers were very friendly, and helped us to find a good adventure for our family. Facilities were clean, showers hot… we even lucked out on the mosquitoes (they were bad the week before we arrived). No complaints. Would visit again if given the chance!

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
