M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

This campground is always beautiful every time we visit. Showers and bathrooms are always clean and sites are very spacious and well kept. Their crew is always out making sure things are taken care of on the grounds. Previous reviews had complained about mosquitoes being unbearable but maybe we just lucked out due to cooler weather? I personally didn’t think they were all that bad, just be sure to bring some bug spray and you should be fine.

The facilities and sites at Platte River Campground were lovely. The walking trail to Lake Michigan and easy access to kayaking was fabulous!

Platte River is a beautiful campground and we will definitely go back. We visited at the end of May and the mosquitos were so thick it was almost unbearable. We definitely needed a thermacell unit and deet. The restroom facilities were well-kept and had utility sinks for doing dishes, which came in handy. Site was level with a separate pad for the picnic table that was up a hill. I would recommend looking for an ADA site if unlevel ground is a challenge. Overall, beautiful!

The electric power was cut off to charge my vehicle around 8 pm and was not able to get a hold of anyone until around 10 am. I requested to get a refund and they denied it.

We love how close the camping ground is to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Campsites are well kept and so are bathrooms and shower facilities.

We always have a wonderful experience at Platte River, but this year due to the large number of mosquitoes and stormy weather, we could only sleep in our tent in the C Walk-In Sites. We couldn't enjoy cooking and/or sitting out by the fire at night because the mosquitoes were all over.

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
