M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

Always a great stay. We come every year and it’s always one of the best of our trip. Everything is well maintained. The sites are all good, even the inside loop ones which I typically avoid at other campgrounds. Everything is spaced far apart with many trees to fill in. The path to the beach is great and we always float down Platte River. Love this place!

Great centrally located campground in NW Michigan. It's between Esch Beach and Sleeping Bear dunes to the north and Crystal Lake to the south. There's a 1.5 mile walking trail to Lake Michigan that starts behind Loops 1-4. Platte River Kayak is next door and offers kayaks, canoes or tube floats with one way shuttle service. We ended up staying here 3 nights and 3 different sites only because we didn't plan in advance. The alerts on recreation.gov work well, but I wish they had a text vs email alert option. The office personnel were great and I especially enjoyed talking to the park person who works summers and has a house in Northern Indiana that got flooded. I have no complaints about noise, trash, cleanliness of bathrooms. Everything was great! We have the senior lifetime pass so half off on the non-electric camp fee.

Sleeping Bear Platte River campground
Kind and helpful staff, hosts, thank you! Quick response to any glitches and lovely maintenance of grounds, bathrooms.
Sleeping Bear is a wonder. Thank you for this precious place and the miles of trails and beaches to explore. Historic farms, native plantings, protection of plovers ... just incredible. This is my favorite place to vacation, and I have been through the Alps, the Rockies, the Icefield Parkway, Norway, Costa Rica .... none can beat this treasure.

This is the most beautiful campground I’ve ever stayed at. I had a non-electric site. The sites are huge and wooded and so close to the river and Lake Michigan. They clean the ground of each site with a leaf blower and rake! The bathrooms were clean too. I already booked another visit.

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.

- Violation of terms may result in permit suspension, revocation and/or issuance of a citation by law enforcement.
