We loved the non electric section of Platte River. Campsites were large and privacy was good. The lakeshore access was right in back of our site. The showers were cleaned daily. The dish washing station was great to have. We biked the trails in the area. Fun place.

Love the campground. Everything was great with the except the weather. It rained like crazy! We still had a great time and made the most of it. That is the reason for the 4 stars. Platt is one of my favorite campgrounds; it always rates a 5 stars

Be sure to visit Sleeping Bear Dunes, kayak the Platte River, take in a Lake Michigan sunset, and visit St. Ambrose in Beulah.

Campsites and trails were well-maintained and in excellent condition. Bathrooms were clean and stocked, and the single-stall showers (with hot water!) were an unexpected but fantastic amenity. The bear boxes were HUGE and at the main entrance to every site so we could fit everything we needed in ours - including a very large cooler - and we had our own box, contrary to what the photos show. Firewood was available within the campground for $10 per bundle. The check in process was quick and smooth and park staff were helpful and kind. Parking was easy and we had no issues finding a spot every time, although I’d image it’d be more challenging during busier times as it looked like there were more campsites than spots.
Most of the walk-in sites were a bit close together, but there was still a sizable gap between sites, including for our site, C002. C002 was nestled in some small hills, which helped with privacy as it was close to the bathrooms/parking lot and was quite close to one of the D00- sites, but we didn’t notice anyone else. C002, as well as the other C00- sites, were close to the trailhead for ~1 mile long walk to the beach. Note that, even if the walk to the beach isn’t that long, it is a bit difficult due to it being mainly sand and hills.
My only warning is that were TONS of mosquitoes, even on cold and windy days, as there is a lot of standing water around the campground. Bring thick clothes, extra bug spray, a Thermacell or similar, some hydrocortisone, and a fair bit of tenacity, lol.

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
