M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

Best camping experience ever, the restrooms and showers were sparkling clean and we were very happy with the people in the office.

This is the loudest public campground I have ever stayed at. The campsite across from mine was the central location for a very large group of people. They rose very early and weren’t conscientious about whether or not they disturbed neighbors. Vehicles pulled up and parked in front of the bathhouse, scooters, bikes, golf carts, and the like, showed up and gathered for conversation, breakfast, and early morning woodchopping. It looked like a family reunion or maybe a church group. There were children of all ages running around (gleefully) and being called to by their parents. If it had been a little later in the day it would have been charming.
This wasn’t a case of too many people camping on one site. It was a group that had many sites, but they gathered on one site. Having breakfast for 30 plus on one site is very disruptive. Whoever these campers were, they were oblivious to anyone else at the campground.
Other than that, the campground was terrific. The facilities were well maintained and the campground was lovely. The ranger I spoke with about park passes was very helpful.

Platte River is the best campground anywhere. Nice campsites. Ecsh road beach is great. Tubing down platte river is great. Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive is great. Sleeping Bear sand dune is great. Restrooms and showers are cleaned daily.
It is difficult to get a campsite in the summer.
1 complaint: The ledge in the camp sink should be deeper. Dishes, baskets, and pans easily fall off.

Very difficult to get sites. Needed to move 3 times in 5 nights, but what a beautiful place. Top of the heap in every category!

Great campground. Clean bathrooms and showers. We loved how quiet it is, since generators are not allowed. Very nice 3/4 mile trail hike to a secluded beach. Pro Tip: take this path at night to look at the stars. You won't be disappointed.

We come every year! We love platte river! It’s easy access to tubing and kayaking right next door, Lake Michigan at the end of the road. Dunes are within 10 minutes, and so many charming little towns to wander around. The campground is all shaded lots, always clean. Highly recommend

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
