M-22 will be closed from 8:30 am to approximately 2 pm between the City of Frankfort and Esch Road.To avoid road closures, arriving campers should not arrive before the scheduled check-in time of 2 pm.To avoid road closures, departing campers should exit by 8:30 am via Deadstream Road, Platte Road, or M-22 northbound. Southbound M-22 will be closed.

I love this park and where it is. This trip had a lot of mosquitoes which was unusual. It was hard to sit out by a fire because there were so many mosquitoes.

Most beautiful place in MI. So many things to explore and do within a short radius. Platte Piont is the best place to see a sunset as well. Wonderful campground except for the mosquitoes in May.

Nice large site, easily accommodated 2 small tents. Exposed hiking trail is within 10 feet of site but it wasn’t too crowded so didn’t impact us very much. Clean bathrooms, garbage and water across the road.

This time of year - bring bug spray! Like the rest of northern Michigan in late May/early June, the mosquitoes were quite bad.

Restrooms were clean, amazing and new. The campground felt spacious. We appreciated the dishwashing sink.
It had fewer mosquitoes than Brimley, although there were clouds of hangry bugs on the trail.

opted for electric site this year.........site 102. Enjoyed the convenience of for air bed, heater, fan and phone charging. Tent pad is quite small but it worked and I didn't have to walk far or uphill to get to the tent pad.

Great sites and the other campers were fun and respectful! Loved having the option to purchase firewood at the campground, we even walked there from our campsite. Beautiful area. Would camp there again! Especially with the river access and park all not far from.

Had a great time and beautiful weather the only problem we had was the mosquitoes but everything else was wonderful

From the east (Traverse City): Take State Highway M-72 west to Empire. Turn south on State Highway M-22. Proceed 10 miles 16 km) (and turn right on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.
From the south (US-31/M-115): At the junction of U.S. Route 31 and M-115, continue north for seven miles (11 km). Turn left on Platte Road. Proceed five miles and turn right on M-22. Proceed one mile (1.6 km) and turn left on Lake Michigan Road. Follow the signs to Platte River Campground.

- Entrance Fees - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore charges a variety of entrance fees, depending on how a visitor arrives at the park. All visitors must have an entrance pass (separate from camping fees). The park also honors Federal Recreational Lands America the Beautiful (e.g., Resident Annual, Non-Resident Annual, Senior, Access, Military, 4th Grade, Golden Age). For more information visit the park's Fees & Passes web page. The Michigan Recreation Passport is not valid for entry at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, which is a federally managed site.
