Enjoyed hikes to waterfalls and beach. Our favorite was Sandstone Falls because you can get close to it. Rock formations here are amazing. At the othe other falls you are herded like cattle to the overlook and then your view is restricted. We understand this is a safety consideration.

Nice, quiet, well maintained campground. The big attractions are the waterfalls (hike or drive and view, though there is quite a bit of walking and stairs to see them) and the beach. No water currently due to Covid so you need to bring it. I tried to hike to all the waterfalls on the trail (North Country Trail), but lost the trail between the second and third waterfall, due to leaves on the ground and some downed trees. While you can't really get "lost" (you're between the river and the road, just walk one way or the other) and the trail is marked with blue blazes, you still have to pay close attention to stay on it, particularly in the fall when there are some leaves on the forest floor.

Campsites were well maintained. And Campground host, Larry, was phenomenal, very helpful and knowledgeable. He made sure we were having a good stay.

To begin with, there are two things that knock this down from a perfect score. 1) The typical noise rules weren't followed in this campground. Generators running too late and way too early. (and I was getting up at 6:30am) 2) Unlike the better funded National Lakeshores and Parks there's no dedicated pad for my tent, which I have grown to appreciate. Otherwise this was a wonderful campground. The nearby waterfalls were worth the detour here.

Nice location, close to the lake. Mosquitoes and black flies were pretty bad, but it's to be expected at that time of year. Overall nice, quiet place to get away.

From Ironwood Mi., travel east on US 2 to Powderhorn Road, turn left onto Powderhorn Road and travel approximately 3 miles to CR 513, turn left onto CR 513 and travel approximately 11 miles to the Black River Harbor Recreation Area.
The campground is accessible via US Highway 2, which is approximately 3 miles from Powderhorn Road and about 11 miles from CR 513.

Policies & Rules
General
- Camping in a developed recreation site is allowed for a period not longer than 14 days, except as otherwise posted. After this time, you must move to another campground or dispersed site for at least 24 hours.
- Campers must occupy the campsite the first night.
- Eight people and two motorized vehicles are allowed per campsite with a maximum of one RV or camper trailer and two tents per camping site or three tents per camping site. There is additional parking space near the self-service fee station.
- Enjoy your visit to the Ottawa National Forest. If you have any questions, please call (906)-932-1330.
- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information. Gathering of dead and down wood within the camping area for use during stay is permissible.
- Generators are allowed but only between .
- Campsite "switching" is not permitted. You must occupy the campsite that you made a reservation for unless you have received prior permission from the Ottawa National Forest.
- This campground is operated by Camp Host, LLC under a special use permit with the Ottawa National Forest.
- No water available at campground for entire 2026 season. Please plan accordingly. We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
