Black River Harbor Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful environment with well-maintained sites, clean restrooms, and proximity to stunning waterfalls and Lake Superior. While the campground lacks potable water and firewood availability, most campers appreciate the quiet setting and helpful hosts. Some sites may present challenges for those with mobility issues, but overall, it remains a favorite destination for many who enjoy rustic camping and natural beauty.

We've camped here numerous times and it's always been a pretty good experience. Keep in mind it is not the best place if you have mobility issues. Most of the sights in the area involve stairs or rough terrain, and are not in the campground itself. I always feel there needs to be more space between campsites, but this one has pretty good privacy. The pit toilets are clean, but the smell did unpleasantly infiltrate one of our sites. We had no luck catching fish out of the river by the harbor, but thankfully there are many other activities to enjoy in the area.

Sites are well spaced with blacktop. Only negative is that with side entrance campers the pads are narrow with little or no level area adjacent for landing

Why is there no water here? No firewood for sale either, and "host" was hard to find for information. Ok otherwise.

This is a nice, quiet campground with no cell service for miles, unless you're a lucky one who can get a bar or two at the scenic overlook. Lots of waterfalls and trails in the area. Interstate falls on the WI side is worth the drive, too. Be on the lookout for some cool rocks at the beach, we found some small yooperlites right at our campsite (29). No wood available on the grounds but a nice roadside stand just outside the park on the way in.

I have visited this campground numerous times over the years. This year, the cleanliness of the vault toilet was extremely improved over previous visits. The facility was clean and well maintained. Other campers should be aware that this site has not had potable water in several years, so you should plan ahead to have ample water available for drinking and other purposes.

Spurs are narrow with sharp drop offs on both sides, an issue for those with mobility problems. Site itself was roomy. Campground host, never seen in 4 days except once when he was doing a podcast from his site. 85% of the people driving through the campground were doing 25 mph or more. A lot of traffic going through campground. Access to day use involved a lot of stairway steps, NOT AN ACCESSIBLE FEATURE to those with mobility issues or those who use a wheelchair or mobility scooter. Sites were private even though they were close. I had to unload my PMD in the road because of the narrow spur with sharp drop off. With all of the traffic this became dangerous at one time, when someone almost did not see on in time. Some drivers were rude and honked their horn even before they stopped, because I was unloading/loading in the roadway. One centrally located bathroom in the center of the camping loop. Bathroom was clean. Cell coverage unreliable and week. Lake viewing area was okay, but some of the brush could have been cut back to make a better view. Trail to viewing area full of roots and uneven, NOT VERY SAFE FOR THOSE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES. Person cutting the grass did not care about the quality of his work, just was focused on how fast he can get a site or other area done.
Overall I will NOT be coming back to this campground, so far it was the worst NFCG we have stayed at.

We love Black River Harbor Campground. But it has been disappointing that the water supply has not worked for the past 5-7 years. The bathrooms were not as clean as they normally are on our last visit. But we do love the area.
