Sites were well maintained and the camp hosts were very helpful. Nice quiet spot with good access to hiking trails and a boat launch.

Black River Harbor Campground offers a beautiful and peaceful environment with well-maintained sites, clean restrooms, and proximity to stunning waterfalls and Lake Superior. While the campground lacks potable water and firewood availability, most campers appreciate the quiet setting and helpful hosts. Some sites may present challenges for those with mobility issues, but overall, it remains a favorite destination for many who enjoy rustic camping and natural beauty.

Do site research to avoid getting a slopped site.

This site was very small and had hardly any space to put a tent. Be prepared to sweep away giant rocks! I would avoid this specific one if you have a tent and find one with a larger grassy area. This area in general is very city camping and close to other sites. It’s right next to a wonderful beach directly on Lake Superior though! You can technically walk there but you have to on the main road so it’s easier to just drive the few minutes. I wish they had a walkway through the woods to the beach.

2 falls were closed for wind damage repairs but we still need to most of them. Camping was great. Reservations worked well and pricing was very good since we had a lifelong senior pass. Bathrooms were well kept.

The campsite is beautiful. It was fairly full, yet remained quiet and peaceful. On the other hand, the campsite host made himself scarce, and there was no firewood to be bought, even though I called ahead and asked to confirm if it was available. A replacement who actually did the job of being a host would be an improvement.

We loved it. Very quiet, clean, lots of trails around, beautiful views, friendly camp host.

The water was shut off at the campground. The nearest source of water was in town.

While this campground is rustic (no water or electricity) it’s nestled in an area of exceptional natural beauty and proximate to other attractions like Porcupine Mountain, Lake of the Clouds and Little Girls Pointe. Looking forward to the completion of the viewing platforms for the waterfalls. The town of Bessemer is quaint and friendly. It even has new pickleball courts. Bergland Outfitters has a large selection of clothing and the largest selection of women’s shoes and socks for the outdoors. Wakefield is also nearby and the yarn store, My Store, carries more than yarn..

Our site was overgrown by bushes even though a camp host was maintaining the lawn. Also not having water is rough. Lastly, the harbor area appears to be in dire straights with poor amenities, downed trees everywhere, and again no water.
