The modern bathroom was a nice perk, pretty centrally located, and both bathrooms do have a shower as well. An easy walk to a small beach with a dock for boat access, and a swimming area. Slight warning, Site 21 is probably the smallest site on the grounds, and the public access to the lake cuts across the front of your site (this is also noted on the site details before booking).

I thought this campground was very nice and everyone in our group said they would stay here again. We appreciated that sites were very spacious and secluded from the other sites/lots of trees. They also have grates over the fire pits with adjustable levels and a place to hang your trash bag up higher so the animals don't get to it. The beach and sandy bottom lake were great for the little kids. It was nice having a bathhouse compared to other rustic camping we've done, but bring your own hand soap (and possibly toilet paper, it was super thin and hard to get off the roll). There was firewood for sale at the campground for $8 a bundle, but the ice machine was out of order (not sure the pricing or how long it has been out). The single loop around the campground was perfect for kids to ride their bikes. We only interacted with the camp host once, on the day of arrival, when he came to our site and wanted to know our confirmation number (almost seemed like he didn't trust us to be there, but I know the campground has first come first served sites so maybe he just wanted to make sure we were on the right site (which did have our name on the post...), he just asked it very oddly.). Overall it was a great spot just about an hour from Grand Rapids and we will definitely be back!

Website description said it was lakefront. None of the sites are lakefront. We arrived on Monday at 2pm. Signs stating no generators- no exceptions. Nice spacious site #18. Went to the beach and it was nice and sandy. Boat docks there so made swim area small but adequate. We did meet the host- nice gentleman. Thought we would have a quiet visit. Nope, at 7am up starts at least 3 generators. Tuesday morning went to the boat launch to put in our small inflatable boat and PLM was there putting in their airboat, going to treat the lake. Signs posted by them was that there was no swimming at all that day. Being 85 degrees outside and no swimming or AC ( rustic site), we packed up and left. Might go back but not in the summer.

We have camped many times at Nichols South in the last 40 years but this time we needed to be sure we had a spot so we reserved Site 23. When we arrived the site did not have the reservation sign on the post as the others in the park had. It appears that your American We visited his campsite 3 times and no one answered his RV door. Leisure Ranger Dave did not put the sign on our post which caused us a lot of anxiety, just hoping no one would come and tell us to move. All our anxiety could have been alleviated if he had come to the door and talked to us. We have not heard back from American Leisure about our concerns. I wish the US park service was still in charge of the campgrounds.
