What Guests Are Saying
Island Lake Campground is well-maintained with clean bathrooms and good water pressure. The sites are small and somewhat dated, but feature new handicap-style picnic tables and a unique split parking design. While the campground is peaceful initially, noise from other campers can be an issue, and fishing access is limited for those with mobility challenges.

Campground was pretty well maintained, no host on site. Only 17 older site some had moss on the asphalt, so you can tell they weren't overly used. Beach was slightly overgrown. Bathroom was clean. Water from spigot was good and had a lot of pressure. Sites were designed back in what appears to be the fifties as all of them were on the smallish side. First time I saw split parking pads, which made it kinda nice to create a private area. This was okay as we are 23 feet long. All sites had NEW handicap style picnic tables. Very few "level" sites for trailers, as campground located in a glacier moraine area. Some ravines / holes as deep as 60 feet in the nearby area. Island lake is such a hole, it is fed from an underground artesian spring. Fishing opportunity is best from boat or kayak as there were very few areas to get close from public land. As I use a mobility scooter this made for no opportunity for me to enjoy fishing.
Even though campground was on a lake with a lot of cabins and cottages it was quiet and peaceful. Never saw any USFS personnel or law enforcement. Lake does have an HOA patrol that came through on a side by side to check on the campers. Campground is wedge shaped between private land. No public launch site except for what you can carry to the swimming beach. Swimming beach was about half of the lake front, rest being treed area.
Quiet campground at night for the first 2 nights. Then of course rude and noisy campers came in on the third night. They were so bad that we left a day early.

General
- As a visitor to the National Forest, you are asked to follow certain rules designed to protect the Forest, natural resources and to provide for public safety of visitors. These rules are available to you online or at any office of the Huron-Manistee National Forests. Please take time to read and understand them. General Topic orders apply across the Forests. Applicable Orders: - Motorized Vehicle Use of Roads, Trails and Off-road Areas; R904-14-02 - Occupancy and Use - Developed Recreation Areas, Dispersed Areas, Being Publicly Nude, Marine Prohibitions, Parking and Sanitation; R904-14-03
- Some sites are available on a first-come, first serve basis.
- You must occupy your site within 24 hours of the start of your reservation. Contact the Forest Service to request a late arrival or your site may be forfeited.
- Do not tie or tack anything to standing trees, including but not limited to pets, laundry lines, or garbage bags.
- You may use downed wood for firewood. Keep fires within the fire ring. Do not leave hot campfires unattended. Make sure your ashes are cool to the touch before you leave.
- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information
- Fireworks and use of fireworks are not permitted.
- ORVs may only be operated on roads and trails signed as open for their use. ORVs may not be used within campgrounds.
- This site is gated during the off season.
