Beautiful campsite with amazing views of the sunset over Lake Superior. Clean site and decent vault toilets. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Twelvemile Beach Campground offers stunning views of Lake Superior and spacious, well-maintained campsites, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Campground hosts are friendly and helpful, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment. However, challenges with the reservation system and occasional mosquito swarms have been noted by guests, highlighting the need for preparation regarding bug protection and awareness of site availability.

We scored a 3 day cancellation last minute on our Lake Superior Circle Trip mid September. What a great campground. Beautiful beach and hikes. Our 25 ft Airstream fit in perfectly. Our Starlink didn’t work under the trees even with a pole. We did see someone on the other side of the road (beachside) that had Dishy on the dunes!
Great views, helpful part time host.
Downside: no outside world communications anywhere. Maybe a plus 😄

I expected more. The site was an ok size with average privacy. We expected to have beach access from our site (Site 26) but the path just led to a view of the beach with a huge dropoff. We walked down to the nearest set of stairs to the beach and they were closed off with caution tape because a tree had fallen on them and destroyed the lower half. There was no sign explaining where another close access point was. Additionally, there was no host on duty for check in (Sept. 25), there was no firewood available for sale, and in the morning we could very noticeably smell the nearby toilet facilities from our site. We were happy to have only booked a one-night stay.

I’ve had great experiences at all the national park campgrounds I’ve stayed at and this was no exception. Nice, quiet campground with views of Lake Superior. The stairs to the beach were unusable due to a downed tree but the beach was still accessible by a short walk down a dune. I would definitely stay here again. Such a beautiful area!

12 mi beach is a beautiful spot on the south shore of Lake Superior. The campground is on a wooded bluff 20’ to 30’ above the beach itself. There is a set of stairs for access to the beach, but these stairs were extensively damaged and unusable. This made the beach inaccessible from the campground without creating erosion issues by climbing down steep sandy and exposed cliffs. We had hoped to walk the beach but we’re unable to do so.
The camp host was very helpful, friendly, and courteous.
