This was the nicest campground I have seen in the UP. A shower facility would have made it better.

Twelvemile Beach Campground offers stunning views of Lake Superior and spacious, well-maintained campsites, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Campground hosts are friendly and helpful, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment. However, challenges with the reservation system and occasional mosquito swarms have been noted by guests, highlighting the need for preparation regarding bug protection and awareness of site availability.

Stayed for two nights with my family in late spring. Our site had beach access via a short path through a wooded area and down a sand dune. The beach was lovely with so many beautiful stones and perfect for watching the sunset. A couple of minor complaints: 1) both visitor centers were closed, with one (Munising) having a staffed trailer next to the actual visitor’s center but no swag or anything of interest available 2) someone in the campground was running their generator late into the night and although our site was in a generator-free loop it was still quite loud and there was no camp host on site to shut them down for running it after 8pm.

You must make a reservation for a campsite by phone or on-line. There is no cell coverage at the campground.

This is the best campground in the country. Hands down. The view alone is worth going but the sites are generously sized and clean.
If I had any complaints it would be that the tent pads are too hard to stake your tent. Feels like concrete.

Beautiful campground. Excellent views. Clean bathrooms (it was cold when we were there so I would probably expect more flies during warmer months). Very nice camp host. Very quiet and peaceful.
