Twelvemile Beach Campground offers stunning views of Lake Superior and spacious, well-maintained campsites, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Campground hosts are friendly and helpful, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment. However, challenges with the reservation system and occasional mosquito swarms have been noted by guests, highlighting the need for preparation regarding bug protection and awareness of site availability.

Large space for each camp site, great location within 328.1 ft of shore line, for nice sunset views and walks along beach. Make sure to cover body to fend off insects in summer (and dogs may be vulnerable as well), besides that a very enjoyable stay and would return again when possible.

We had site 13E, between the water source (which we could not figure out how to work) and the pit toilets (which were kept quite clean). No issues with smells. There were lots of mosquitos but we had a screen tent so spent time in there. Picnic table had a chain attached so you could not move it too far in any direction. Our trailer is 25’ and our f250 fit in the space as well. There are low posts along each side of the ‘driveway pad’ that are tough to see when you are backing in, so take caution. You can’t see much of the water from this site, as it’s on the opposite side of the road, and the trees are plentiful. We were there in early June and only used our generator during the day to power up our devices, sleeping with windows open was pleasant and quiet. Saw no wildlife. Steps to the beach nearest our site looked like they had washed away and were unusable. Beach was very pleasant to spend some time in the sun. Zero connectivity with cell phones. Get your firewood well before you get to the campground, as it is probably at least 15 mi to backtrack if you missed it. Backpackers/hikers passed through the campground regularly as it is part of the trail system.

I have always loved Twelve mile beach but have not been in 20 years. I was surprised there was no water pump available and was disappointed campers were not notified of this at the reservation site. A drinking fountain doesn’t fill pots/buckets. There were several vacant sites, which is frustrating especially with how difficult it was getting only 2 nights, at 2 different sites. In the past it was “first come, first serve”. Was also surprised there was no host, which would have been nice. Not sure we will be back, which is a shame. The new toilets were very nice.

Campground was beautiful, facilities were clean. Camp host was nice and helpful. The only negative thing would be this campground is difficult to get in to, yet there were many sites un occupied the whole time we were there.
