This was the perfect campsite! We were in site 15, so our space was on Lake Superior, large, scenic and wonderful.

Twelvemile Beach Campground offers stunning views of Lake Superior and spacious, well-maintained campsites, providing a peaceful atmosphere for visitors. Campground hosts are friendly and helpful, contributing to a clean and welcoming environment. However, challenges with the reservation system and occasional mosquito swarms have been noted by guests, highlighting the need for preparation regarding bug protection and awareness of site availability.

Love this campground. It is rustic, the spaces are spread out, quiet and has a beautiful beach. Very few people on it, you could walk for miles, and dog friendly. We had our motor home and stayed in the section where we could run our generator an hour a day to keep our battery charged. The only issue was the black flies. We camped in July because I had read somewhere that they were worse in August, but evidently they are better in August? Half of the time, no problem. There were a couple afternoons we had to keep the dogs inside because they were COVERED with them. You can buy bug spray that is 100% deet in Grand Marais, which was recommended to us by the rangers. The camp host was very friendly and helpful.

The clear water, relaxing atmosphere and sunsets here are amazing. The sites are nicely distanced for some privacy and the rustic campground setting makes you really feel away from it all. Easy access to the beach from the campground for walking and swimming in Lake Superior. The beach is absolutely beautiful with lots of sand and a rocky waterline. We used this campground as our base and were able to do a few day hikes, check out some waterfalls and experience the Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. Bathrooms are pit toilets but were kept clean for our stay and are distributed throughout the campground. For wood you can purchase from several local roadside stands on your way in, or collect fallen wood. If you enjoy rustic camping and the unspoiled beauty of the UP then this is definitely a campground to try.

Breath-taking location, very nice peace and quiet, and AMAZING camp hosts(seriously, they were so friendly and helpful!). My only complaint was the drop toilets— normally, I wouldn’t have an issue with the cleanliness of a drop toilet, but because of COVID-19, I was expecting them to be cleaner and at least stocked with some hand sanitizer.
