What Guests Are Saying

Higgins Lake Campground has potential with clean cabins, helpful staff, and a friendly atmosphere, particularly noted by some visitors who enjoyed their stays. However, many reviews highlight significant issues, including poor maintenance, broken picnic tables, and inadequate facilities for seniors and children. Overall, while some guests had positive experiences, others felt the campground did not meet expectations, especially given the price.

I camp May-September every year and have camped many places. This place was the worst I have been to, especially for Labor Day weekend. For the price, I would expect the place to at least be maintained/cleaned up. Bathroom was disgusting, there was toilet paper all over the floor but none to use, the floor was covered in I’m not sure what. The double giant dumpster were both overflowing and the smell was so strong you don’t even want to walk up to set your bag next to it. Labor Day weekend and the place was a ghost town. They need to get some staff to go around and actually maintain the place and care for it, not just sit in the office to collect money. We paid for a site with our own water hookup and ended up having to share with 3 other campsites because only 1 worked. You would be better off staying on state land, it would be the same if not better experience but a fraction of the price. My family will not be back here.

The family and I took a trip for memorial weekend and had nothing but a fantastic time! The folks in the store were very helpful, kind, and full of excitement. The pizza was fantastic and the all around vibe was amazing. Very dog and kid friendly! Tent camping was great but definitely going to check out a cabin or yurt next visit!

We just stayed here for the weekend. I wont lie, I was skeptical after reading reviews. I wish people would leave more reviews after good experiences. I found nothing in the reviews to be factual during our stay. We rented a small cabin. The cabin was clean and the space was nice. The customer service was top notch. The bathrooms were clean and well kept and the showers were nice and hot. Trash cans were not overflowing and there was no trash anywhere. They did say they were under new management so maybe that is helping but we will definitely come back. Close to lakes and state parks.

Our family was looking forward to our yearly week long camping trip. The cabin that we rented for my 83 year old mother had no hand rails to get up to the landing (3 step) or to get into the cabin (6 steps). The doors to the cabin open outwards while standing on the steps. They could easily put a ramp to the landing. The cabin door would not close or lock properly because the door frame is rotted. No hand rails in the bathroom to assist getting in to or out of the shower. My mother fell trying to get in to the shower. The a/c unit is only located in the bedroom so trying to cool off the cabin is next to impossible. The cabin was not advertised as ADA handicap accessible, but was the closest to our campsite.
Our campsite was mostly level, our shared water line was in the front of the lot.. The old wooden picnic table had the legs breaking off on one side with exposed nails.
We had 8 campsites and 4 cabin rentals in our party. Several left early (Friday) before reservation was up and a few more left Saturday morning. Most of the family members agreed, this was the worst place we stayed since we started our summer family camping trip 20 years ago.

I wanted to give this place the benefit of doubt. The campground has so much potential, but was lacking in so many ways, especially for the price. Picnic tables that should have been fire wood a long time ago (be careful, they are literally falling apart), uneven lots with oddly-placed, shared water hookup, and lacking activities for kids like the jumping pillow. These are just issues we had personally, not including the problems with nonexistent park maintenance that others in my group experienced. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. We had a great time with family, no thanks to the campground.
