What Guests Are Saying
Lake Michigan at St. Ignace offers a beautiful campground with clean facilities and large sites, providing excellent access to the beach and stunning sunset views. While road noise from the nearby highway can be disruptive, especially during the day, it tends to quiet down at night. Campers should be prepared for mosquitoes, but overall, many guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds and friendly hosts, making it a favored spot for a relaxing stay by the water.

The most magical place to camp!!!! Will most definitely keep coming back. The road noise can be loud at night, but we found it quite peaceful. The waves were so peaceful as well and it was a very nicely kept space! The beach was never busy, slice of heaven!

Site 20 is lake side with just a short private dune walk to Lake Michigans shore. Situated above road level, be aware you have to climb 20 or so steps to get to where you can set up your tent and gear. Once there, there are enough trees on either side of you where you can’t see your neighbors. Site is ample enough for multiple tents. You can comfortably park 2 cars at the base of the stairs. However a big con is the road noise from US-2. The campground runs right between the highway and shoreline. A little more than white noise, but the proximity of this site to the shoreline and the affordability of the campground compared to other options in the area makes a visit here worthwhile.

I camped here with my nephews and a couple of their friends for the Bridge Walk in St. Ignace. We stayed Friday-Monday nights. Campsite was large and had plenty of room for our large tent and 3 cars. We visited Benny the beard fishing troll, Cut River Bridge and Tahquamenon Falls before we crossed the bridge. We took advantage of the lake access. Things were nice and quiet and just what we needed for an enjoyable weekend. Site was very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend for rustic camping.

One of my very favorite campgrounds for active people looking for a more rustic, peaceful experience. I absolutely love this campground, & the camp hosts this trip are exceptionally friendly, & are keeping the grounds clean, well-maintained & organized. The scenery is breathtaking- the beach goes on forever & is great for swimming, rock hunting, amazing sunsets, & stargazing. Nearly all of the sites are well-wooded & private- each is unique. The scenery is the star of the show, but if you are wanting modern convenience, this park will not meet your needs- it’s a national forest campground. There are a few potable water spigots to carry water from, & vault toilets. No electricity, so the park is super dark at night. Great place for active families to enjoy the outdoors- but probably won’t be as fun for those who watch tv, play video games, etc. Cell service is spotty- some providers are stronger than others, so prepare for limited service. This campground is very peaceful, & well-maintained- but know that because it sits on the bluffs directly between Hwy 2 & Lake Michigan, there is a significant amount of road noise at the campsites. Once you get over the bluffs & down to the beach, the road noise is buffered. PLEASE NOTE: There is access to the beach throughout the park, but you should be in good health & able to climb sand dunes if you want to swim, etc. The climb back up the bluffs is challenging. Some of the things I strongly suggest you bring: A good bug spray, battery banks, rechargeable lights & headlamps, good climbing shoes/sandals, firewood, ample drinking water, sunscreen, plenty of small bills &/or a checkbook if you are looking for a FCFS site.

It is a pretty park with beach access. Keep in mind that you are right on the US-2 highway, so it is very loud especially with the number of semi trucks that travel this road. We also found the pit toilets to be overly “ripe” and in need of a clean out.

Very clean and well cared for campground. There were less first come first server sites than we had expected but we were able to get a spot. Many previously reserved spots were empty which was unfortunate.
