What Guests Are Saying
Lake Michigan at St. Ignace offers a beautiful campground with clean facilities and large sites, providing excellent access to the beach and stunning sunset views. While road noise from the nearby highway can be disruptive, especially during the day, it tends to quiet down at night. Campers should be prepared for mosquitoes, but overall, many guests appreciate the well-maintained grounds and friendly hosts, making it a favored spot for a relaxing stay by the water.

Our trip was and always is amazing! Every host we have had has been excellent! Wish that the middle vault toilets could be redone or something done to the smell of it. The other vault toilets are a lot nicer and better smelling. Also wish that they could sell ice and wood like they did before COVID, it’s so much more convenient, especially if that’s all you need and that elevates having to drive to a store.

This campground is RIGHT NEXT TO a busy state route. Very loud traffic hitting the rumble strips day and night. This is a terrible place for a campground. Needed ear plugs and a sleeping aide to block it out. Do not stay here.

Horrible experience, I realize now why people only rent the campsites on the lake side which looked beautiful...the other side - the side I rented is so close to the highway you can see the cars through the trees. Loud traffic, the site was literally surrounded by poison ivy and there was no where to buy wood when I got there. Other issues made this unbearable so we had to leave almost as soon as we got there, waste of money and time.

Very clean and well cared for campground. There were less first come first server sites than we had expected but we were able to get a spot. Many previously reserved spots were empty which was unfortunate.

It is a pretty park with beach access. Keep in mind that you are right on the US-2 highway, so it is very loud especially with the number of semi trucks that travel this road. We also found the pit toilets to be overly “ripe” and in need of a clean out.

One of my very favorite campgrounds for active people looking for a more rustic, peaceful experience. I absolutely love this campground, & the camp hosts this trip are exceptionally friendly, & are keeping the grounds clean, well-maintained & organized. The scenery is breathtaking- the beach goes on forever & is great for swimming, rock hunting, amazing sunsets, & stargazing. Nearly all of the sites are well-wooded & private- each is unique. The scenery is the star of the show, but if you are wanting modern convenience, this park will not meet your needs- it’s a national forest campground. There are a few potable water spigots to carry water from, & vault toilets. No electricity, so the park is super dark at night. Great place for active families to enjoy the outdoors- but probably won’t be as fun for those who watch tv, play video games, etc. Cell service is spotty- some providers are stronger than others, so prepare for limited service. This campground is very peaceful, & well-maintained- but know that because it sits on the bluffs directly between Hwy 2 & Lake Michigan, there is a significant amount of road noise at the campsites. Once you get over the bluffs & down to the beach, the road noise is buffered. PLEASE NOTE: There is access to the beach throughout the park, but you should be in good health & able to climb sand dunes if you want to swim, etc. The climb back up the bluffs is challenging. Some of the things I strongly suggest you bring: A good bug spray, battery banks, rechargeable lights & headlamps, good climbing shoes/sandals, firewood, ample drinking water, sunscreen, plenty of small bills &/or a checkbook if you are looking for a FCFS site.

I camped here with my nephews and a couple of their friends for the Bridge Walk in St. Ignace. We stayed Friday-Monday nights. Campsite was large and had plenty of room for our large tent and 3 cars. We visited Benny the beard fishing troll, Cut River Bridge and Tahquamenon Falls before we crossed the bridge. We took advantage of the lake access. Things were nice and quiet and just what we needed for an enjoyable weekend. Site was very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend for rustic camping.
