About Pfeiffer Lake
Pfeiffer Lake Campground, located adjacent to it's namesake lake, is a small, peaceful and scenic facility in the Superior National Forest of Minnesota. The lake's healthy population of fish make it a favorite spot for anglers, and the swim beach, playground and picnic area provide fun for the whole family.
Superior National Forest, located in northeastern Minnesota's arrowhead region, is comprised of 3 million acres. The forest spans 150 mi along the United States-Canada border. Visitors can find recreation opportunities year-round, including travel in the famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

We reserved our site in the spring and when we got there it was full. The host had forgot to put up the reserved sign. We drove 2 hours there and back for nothing.

28 ft by 12 inch round tree was on our tent pad site when we arrived. This was site 12 which I reserved 1 month in advanced. 1/3 of our site was non usable. The park ranger drove by slow and kept going and the campground host looked at the tree and said you have a tree down. All the campground said after this was you need to fill out a tag. This is the first time at a Federal campground I had to fill out my own tag. Always in the past at all other Federal campgrounds the tag was on the post already and said reserved. We left that next morning. Ended up setting the tent on a hill. This dead Birch tree could have come down on our tent.

Getting There
From Virginia, Minnesota, take Highway 53 north for 21 mi to County Road 22. Turn onto County Road 22 and travel east for 10 mi. Turn south on Forest Road 256 and travel 1.2 mi to Pfeiffer Lake Campground.

Pfeiffer Lake Campground is accessible via Highway 53, which is approximately 21 miles south in Virginia, Minnesota.
Policies & Rules
Arrival & departure
- The campground is closed from November 1 to May 1.
- You must occupy your reserved site within 24 hours.
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
Utilities
- No drinking water, garbage service, or toilet cleaning is available during winter.
Fees & deposits
- There is a $9.00 per day fee for an additional non-towed vehicle.
Safety & rules
- Fireworks are not allowed.
Fires & fuel
- Do not move firewood to prevent the spread of pests; obtain firewood locally.
