About Pfeiffer Lake

Pfeiffer Lake Campground, located adjacent to it's namesake lake, is a small, peaceful and scenic facility in the Superior National Forest of Minnesota. The lake's healthy population of fish make it a favorite spot for anglers, and the swim beach, playground and picnic area provide fun for the whole family. Superior National Forest, located in northeastern Minnesota's arrowhead region, is comprised of 3 million acres. The forest spans 150 mi along the United States-Canada border. Visitors can find recreation opportunities year-round, including travel in the famous Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

A diamond in the rough! Spacious sites, nice fishing of crappie, walleye & others on thecsmall, 58 acre lake. Playground too. No electricity and only vault toilets (cleanly kept), but an enjoyable place to stay. Some lakeside sites to launch canoes, but also has a boat launch for larger boats. We enjoyed our 4 day stay in mid-May. Friendly attendant. Plan on staying again.

Best place to camp. Friendly host Jane was amazing! Site 01 is a definite comeback. Thank you for making Pfeiffer Lake an amazing camping experience. I've been coming here since age 6.

I grew up in the area and Pfeiffer was our go-to spot for swimming as kids. I hadn't been camping at Pfeiffer in many years, but usually make it there every summer for swimming and kayaking. For a few years, (maybe from covid or doge cuts?) it was a little rough. This year, it was great! The beach and the campground were clean and mowed. Nice experience. I would like to see the swim area rope and bouys make a comeback.

From Virginia, Minnesota, take Highway 53 north for 21 mi to County Road 22. Turn onto County Road 22 and travel east for 10 mi. Turn south on Forest Road 256 and travel 1.2 mi to Pfeiffer Lake Campground.

Policies & Rules

Arrival & departure

  • The campground is closed from November 1 to May 1.
  • You must occupy your reserved site within 24 hours.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

  • No drinking water, garbage service, or toilet cleaning is available during winter.
