Winnie Campground is praised for its friendly host, Nicole, who has significantly improved the campground's cleanliness and maintenance. Campers appreciate the spacious, beautiful sites, immaculate vault toilets, and the peaceful atmosphere, especially during less crowded times. However, there are some concerns regarding bear activity in the area, which has prompted campers to be cautious with food storage.

Camp host Nicole and her husband do a great job of maintaining campsites. Best we have seen for a long, long time. The path along the lake could be trimmed out a little better.

Our campground host (Nichol) is 'rock solid'. As a 'Native American' she understands the need to connect with nature thru camping in the outdoors. The walking trails and campsites were mowed to keep back the poison ivy and mosquitoes. The bathrooms were always furnished with toilet paper and clean. I even saw her distribute some free firewood to the campsites.
The unfortunate thing that happened was a bear breaking into a sleeping tent during the day. The Conservation Officers told us we had we had to leave at 7:30 PM, if we slept in a tent, or receive a citation. This whole thing was blown way out of proportion with the limited time frame. Packing up and going home made families travel all night to get home at 5 AM in southern Minnesota. What will USFWL, do to compensate us for having to leave 2 days prior to our paid departure date?

We were kicked out of our campsite on Thursday, June 25, by the local DNR because we were tenting and there was a 'bear problem' in the area. We lost two full nights of our paid reservation and were not refunded that amount.

I have been camping here for a few years now and I have always had a great experience the sites are well laid out with plenty of room to pull a trailer into and the views out of the lakeside sites are absolutely stunning. The roads to the campground are always well maintained and even after a huge storm passed during my last trip the roads had been cleared less than 6 hours after the storm was over. Overall this is a perfect campground for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the Chippewa forest.

Been staying at this campground for about 40+ yrs. The best part is the large campsites, spaced out so you don’t see or hear the next site. And now it’s open till the middle of October. Always liked fall camping, no bugs and sweatshirt weather. The walking trail along the lake is too overgrown and blocks the clear view of the lake. The sites are clean and mowed, the lake path should be too. Phone reception is good too. Water is clear and sandy for swimming out front. Priced very reasonable and like the primitive style camping. Maybe when retired I can be camp host and cut up some fallen trees and mow a little more.
