Love the campground and the hosts were helpful and personable. We do, however, wish that the poison ivy, within the campground sites could be distinguished! There is PLENTY of it on the roadways and surrounding areas. Just dont understand WHY it can't be a bit controlled IN the site areas??? It is not a necessary foliage for anything "good"! We LOVE coming here, but, my husband, especially, contracts it, every time we visit. If something cannot be done, we may need to discontinue our 5-6 visits, along with others we co-camp with, in the future😞 please do something about the immediate campsite areas, so that we may continue to visit this pristine, primitive area! There is PLENTY of the poison ivy in many other areas, i dont feel it NEEDS to be in the immediate campsites! Thank you

Outdoor toilets are clean for those type of toilets! It was clean and properly manicured! Some of the picnic tables were repaired, finally, we have camped there for 3 years now and always enjoy the atmosphere!

I’ve been going to Williams narrows since I was a young teenager. It’s my favorite place in the world.
The only hard part is the steep hill from our camp spot to our boat.

Very nice campsite. A little tight backing in, but once in alot of space. Enough to fit a camper, truck, boat, and car and still have space. This site also leads down to the boat landing with a walking trail. Mosquitos are bad but used camp mist and citronella candles and it seemed to help alot.

Williams Narrows is in a great spot. It’s quiet, but there’s a local lake resort within walking distance that has your standards of civilization (toilet, wifi, a bar). The camp hosts were extremely friendly and maintained what I consider to be a great campsite. I’ll definitely be staying here again the next time I’m in the area

Nice campground once you get past campers who run their generators all night. People using the boat launch parking lot to store their boats and trucks while staying at the campground doesn't seem to make sense either. The campground host was nowhere to be found the whole week we stayed there as well.

Campground was clean and quiet at night. Bathroom was well stocked and the camp hosts were very nice. Backing in a large camper is kind of tricky with the trees on either side of the road and the road being only one lane.

Booked site 8, but it wasn’t good for our popup orientation. We checked out site 12 which was first come first serve and it was available. Site was big with a view of the lake through the trees and stairs down to the water. Site 15 is on the end and perfect for the view, open space and will accommodate an rv, boat, truck, screen room etc. Site 24 is also nice and big. Camp host was very friendly.

From Deer River, take Highway 46 north 15 miles. Turn west on Bowen/Williams Narrows Road (County Road 148) and travel two miles to the campground.

Policies & Rules
General
- Fee includes one camping unit per site. Double occupancy is not permitted on single unit sites; on large sites double occupancy is permitted. The second occupant must pay the full nightly amount for each night of stay by using a fee envelope at the entrance kiosk. Please read the fee board upon entering the campground to see what qualifies for single and double occupancy. Vehicles and/or trailers must not block any part of roadways or gates at any time.
- Some important campground rules: - Pets are welcome but must remain on a leash 6' or shorter in length at all times. - Campfires cannot be left unattended. They must be extinguished before the campsite is vacated. - Fireworks, including sparklers, are not allowed. - Cutting/damaging live vegetation is not allowed. You may gather dead and downed wood for campfires if it fits within the fire ring. - The use of power saws, including electric chainsaws, is strictly prohibited. - Off-highway vehicle use is permitted only to enter and exit the campground and must adhere to the speed limit of 5 mph. Operators must adhere to state OHV laws. All regulations are found under 36 CFR 261 and are punishable by fines.
- Northern Minnesota is home to black bears. Campers must keep coolers and other bear attractants locked inside hard-sided campers or in vehicles when not attended, including overnight. Black bears are present and active within the campground area. Feeding any wildlife, including hanging bird feeders, is strictly prohibited. NEW FOR 2025: Chippewa National Forest Campground Food Storage Order
- Bundled firewood is no longer available in Chippewa National Forest campgrounds. Firewood may be available for sale at local vendors, or may be brought from home if within Itasca County. You may also cut dead and downed wood in the forest without a permit as long as it will be used in the campground. Chainsaw use (gas and electric) is not permitted in the campground. Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information.
- Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. After this window, sites are considered first-come first-serve. Customers with reservations may change to an open non-reservable site after arrival - please see the campground host as well as a sign at the entrance kiosk for more information. If you would like more site-specific information, call the Deer River Ranger District at 218-246-2123 before making a reservation. First-come, first-serve sites may be available after the reservation season.
