Camp host were very nice and the facility was very clean. The landing is in very rough shape and lots of rocks to snack a hull or prop on. The only reason I gave it a lower review is because of the boat landing.

Thor and Cindi are by far the best hosts we have ever met in a state or national campground- and they kept the campground very clean and their hospitality and help was so appreciated. You have found a delightful host for this beautiful area! Thank you Thor and Cindi for all your dedication !

The camp hosts here are great people and have a really well-maintained and beautiful site here. Canoes for rent were in great condition and the lakeside campsites each had a path to the water’s edge- worth the 5mile dirt drive to ge to this gem!!

Quiet, peaceful experience on a beautiful fall weekend. The campsite is big enough, picnic table was good, and the site was clean. The toilets were as clean and smell-free as can be, with plenty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The motion lights in the toilets are appreciated! Also the water from the hand pump is very good. Maintenance staff Cyndi stopped by in the morning while making her rounds, and we had a very nice chat! She recommended a great local hike.

Tree branches hanging into the roads so much that an rv cannot pass thru without scatching sides, The dock at the boat ramp is a nice dock yet you could not launch and retrieve longer that a 10 foot boat safely. It just needs to be adjusted to the water height. Park ranger/law enforcement and park host make their rounds daily yet no one can fix it. I have 2 more reservations this summer and if nothing has changed they will be my last.

We are very seasoned campers and we'd definitely rank the Birch Lake Campground as the best kept campground we have ever stayed. The campsites are regularly kept clean after people leave, the toilets were always clean and well stocked, and the entire area was free of garbage. The camp hosts were very friendly and attentive as well. We stayed midweek but it was still pretty busy and the sounds from nearby campers was minimal thanks to the spacing of the campground. Having a nice path to the lake was an extra bonus for enjoying shorefishing and sunrises/sunsets. The boat landing was in great condition and well kept as well with ample parking and a solid dock. And to polish it all off, the water from the pump was plentiful and tasty as can be. All in all a most wonderful experience at an awesome campground. Thanks!

From Ely, Minnesota, travel about 8 miles south on State Highway 1 toward Lake Superior, until Forest Road 429 (Little Lake Road). Turn right on Forest Road 429 and continue 4 miles to the campground entrance road. Turn left onto the campground road and continue 1 mile to the campground.

General
- Off-road and all-terrain vehicles are not allowed during camping season.
- During the walk-in season, please contact the local USFS for information.
- Please Note: One RV with tow vehicle per single site or two vehicles per tent site. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle that is not included with the reservation fee. Extra vehicle will be charged a per night fee and collected at the campground.
- Reserved Sites will be held until the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests. Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
- Refunds: Refund requests made through www.recreation.gov will be charged a $10 processing fee. This fee is retained by the reservation service contractor along with the non-refundable reservation fee. All requests for the return of the non-refundable reservation fee and the cancellation fee will be declined by the campground concessionaire as they did not receive these fees (these are the fees retained by the reservation contractor, a different entity).
