Wooded sites provide adequate privacy and space. Beautiful scenery around the campground. Lots of cross country ski and snowshoe trails from the nearby resort are good for hiking, running or dog walking. Bathrooms and sites are well maintained by the Golden Eagle Lodge, and they have firewood available as well. Lots of great hiking trails nearby on the Gunflint, or even just take a drive for great scenery!

First-time campers - GREAT experience!! We traveled to North Shore from Rochester, MN. Couldn't find a place anywhere on/around route 61, so we reluctantly found Flour Lake. After visiting there and seeing how overflowed/cramped the camp sites on 61 were, we were VERY happy! The trip to/from Flour Lake and Grand Marais is about 40 minutes, but the scenery was peaceful and worthwhile. Originally had site #2, but saw #35 as a First-Come-First-Serve and took it instead because we came 1 day later and needed to stay 1 more day and didn't want to switch sites. BEST MOVE EVER! (got partial refund for #2) We were by drinking water, bathrooms, easy/quick access to the lake for kids to go/come back. #35 also had enough space for 2 vans, 2 tents, all 10 of us. The lake was clean, peaceful. We were worried about bears and what not - NOT AN ISSUE! We heard wolves howling in the distance late at night, it was cool, but never felt unsafe. We wished we had stayed 1-2 nights more and will definitely consider going back.

Flour Lake is so beautiful! We had so much fun and relaxing time there! Water was super clear. Fishing was so much fun and we caught so many big bass!
However, our campground was a little confusing, we booked campground #30 but it was a shared with campground #2. The campground is in the middle and the entrance for campground #2 was on the right and campground #30 on the left.. The site was not huge, and there was 4 of us, so it was just nice for us. I was so glad no one showed up at Campground #2, because we will not have enough space at all. We don't recommend campground #30 or #2 if you want privacy.
A little sad that we didn't get to see any moose but overall experience was good.

A busy campground but the campsites are separated enough so that it does not feel that way.

Many private campsites, some with direct access to the lake. Quiet in the early fall (only time I have been there. Very good smb fishery. Only one small resort on the lake.

I was using a walker at the time so not able to utilize much of the area. Did go to a nearby lake so the kids could swim. They later told me there was such an area at Flour Lake. Campgrounds were all full because of the activity at the National Monument and Pow Wow.

We had an absolutely amazing time. From sightseeing to hiking and fishing on the lake. It was a wonderful getaway in our own Minnesotan backyard.

From Grand Marais, Minnesota, take Gunflint Trail (County Road 12) 27 miles north, turn right on County Road 22 (previously CR 66) and travel 3 miles to the campground road. Turn right and follow the campground road 1/2 mile to the campground.
Flour Lake Campground is accessed via Gunflint Trail (County Road 12), which connects to Minnesota State Highway 61 approximately 27 miles south in Grand Marais.
Elevation: 543 feet
30 mi drive to downtown Grand Marais (about 41 min)
Policies & Rules
General
- Flour Lake has portages into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness; when portaging or paddling from this lake into another, check if you'll be entering the BWCAW; permits are required to enter; permit information.
- One vehicle is included in the regular fee; second vehicle must pay an extra vehicle fee of $12/night upon arrival.
- Ten first-come, first-served campsites are available.

- Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood.
