Hernando Point Campground

Warning

General

Arkabutla Lake will be experiencing substantially lower water levels for an extended period of time. Long-term repairs to Arkbabutla Dam must be completed before water levels can return to normal. This affects boating access and water-based activities on the lake. Many boat ramps are currently closed with Hwy. 51 Landing being the only open ramp. Most day use and campground facilities remain open for public use. For more information, please contact the Arkabutla Lake Field Office at 662-562-6261 or 662-292-1992. We arrived before dark Memorial Day, there are no signs giving you lot # directions Doo the first road I turn down was a deep hole that I had to back out from along with my husband who was towing a 38 ft 5th wheel. As we went around the entire campground where vehicles were parked 1/2 in the road 1/2 on the grass it was difficult to get thru, and I mean inches! My picture as you can look up showed a lake front lot was FAR from it. We were on the back on a lot where raw sewage was on the concrete pad up to the table, dog poop was all in the grass which had obviously not been mowed, tall in clovers. The park was quite, Not A Ranger or Camp Host to be found. We took our water hose sprayed down the area, by then we were over taken by mosquitoes and gnats. At this point we loaded up and left the RV there bc my husband had to be at work. This was supposed to be a week of me and my two 8 and 9 yr old granddaughters, but luckily we love about 15 miles away. I went back the next day. Found the camp host (who had 5 vehicles parked at his pad) who was busily building wooden under pinning his RV for his “permanent stay”! He never approached us, and it was it undetermined “who” the other host was. We never saw a Ranger at any time. I loaded our perishables and after calling Recreation.gov, told them I could not arrange my RV to be relocated until Friday morning, which we did pack up and left. I have not received credit or a call from the Corps of Engineers yet. Before I post to social media the videos and pictures I will try one more time to reach the proper channel to get this resolved. I was raised near here and spent my young years there and this place is deplorable. I understand that a tornado came thru a few years ago, was under the impression it had been Updated with sewer and electrical at all sites. In the past Rangers patrolled the areas non stop. In comparison to Enid Lake camp sites this is a negative 50. Ruined trip for 2 little girls is an understatement!

We love to camp at Hernando Point! It is close to home and a quick weekend getaway. We know we are spoiled by full hookups! Site 52 is one of our favorite sites. It is in the back loop so very quiet. The site itself is very level with a nice concrete pad off of the camper. The trees provided great shade throughout the day and we can see the lake behind us through the trees. The restroom and bathhouse are relatively close and clean.
I highly recommend this campground!

The sites are not labeled correctly on Recreation.gov or google. We were in site 26 that was listed 24. There is no check in booth and beach was closed. The picture of some sites listed of recreation.gov are either old or incorrect. We had little shade and are disappointed that something as simple as labeling sites and providing accurate pictures is not being done at this campground. Campsite was quiet at night and many people appear to live at the campground, rotating in and out as required.

Tent camper from a motorcycle here. The bath house was perfectly fine. Extremely quiet, almost deserted-feeling. I didn't speak one word to a single person the whole time, that's how little contact there was. NO WIFI, NO CELL SIGNAL. I was glad I brought a book. Bring insect repellant!

The park was better than we expected. Trees & shrubs had been thinned out and offered more security because we had a panoramic view of several sites. WE LOVED the full-hookup & it makes the park a new favorite for us.

We've stayed twice. The 1st time it was an incredible experience. Everyone was friendly, the park looked gorgeous even though the water was very high due to recent rains. We returned a little more than 2 weeks later (6/24) and the grass has obviously not been mowed since before 6/8. The grass and weeds throughout the park is over a foot tall and visitors are bringing their personal mowers to mow their sites to make them usable. This is unacceptable for ANY campground and potentially unsafe due to incursions of insects, snakes and other wildlife.
