Many boat ramps are currently closed with Hwy. 51 Landing being the only open ramp. Most day use and campground facilities remain open for public use. As stated before, this place could be really nice if the following would be fixed: 1) gate attendant (a gate period); 2) hosts or at least more than just occupying a site; 3) reopen the beach and common area (the playground, grills and picnic tables are just rusting away..wasting tax payer money).
Besides these, our site did not have a fire ring as others in the area were missing too. Also we had some excitement, a high speed chase thru the campground. A Sherriff's deputy chased a guy in a truck going about 35 - 40 miles per hour (thank God no children were playing on the roads)...maybe a gate would have stopped this or at least made it safer for the campers.

Second visit, even better than the first. Had beautiful lakeside pull thru site featuring a gorgeous sunset the first night. Only potential downside, the site had no shade, which might be uncomfortable in mid summer heat. It was perfect in the fall.

Park was better this time, grass was finally mowed for a change and not as many permanent people "camping/living" in the campground.

The camp table & grill were located on opposite side of camper & grill broke off from ground with dangerous edges exposed. The campsite fire pit was located behind camper & was also not attached to ground. In the dark my son was walking back to our camper. He ran into rim & it popped up & cut his leg badly. He had to go to emergency room & had staples to close wound. They also removed shrapnel. This campsite needs immediate repairs!

Very quiet campground. You will need to refer to the site map for your spot as the signage is not present as to directions to them.

From I-55, take the Hernando, Mississippi exit and turn west. Continue to to HWY 51 and turn south. Turn west on Wheeler Road and follow signs into campground.
Hernando Point Campground is accessible from I-55 via the Hernando exit, approximately 2 miles away. From I-55, travelers can reach HWY 51, which is also nearby.
Elevation: 76 feet
11 mi drive to downtown Hernando (about 17 min)

General
- Visitors are expected to be aware of park general rules
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds all visitors that coast guard approved personal floatation device is required when conducting activities on or in the waters of Arkabutla Lake. These activities include but are not limited to swimming, waterskiing, riding on personal watercraft, kayaking, and other boating related activities. If vessel is under 16 feet in length a PFD is mandatory at all times. If vessel is over 16 feet in length, PFDs are only required while making way under main propulsion.
